An individual's level of personal fitness has what to do with population level health and medical policy?
I generally don't look to people to take care of me, who have demonstrated that they have difficulty taking care of themselves.

Former Trump WH COVID doc Deborah Birx ‘excited’ for questions at RFK Jr. confirmation hearing

The former White House coronavirus response coordinator on Sunday said she is looking forward to the Senate confirmation hearing of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who President-elect Trump tapped for his secretary of Health and Human Services, as a unique opportunity to have a transparent discussion on the health of Americans.

Dr. Deborah Birx, who served in Trump’s first administration, appeared on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” where she was asked at length about Kennedy potentially leading the agency. and his views on health issues such as vaccines.

“That’s why when he talks about transparency, I’m actually excited that in a Senate hearing he would bring forward his data and the questions that come from the senators would bring forth their data,” Birx said of Kennedy. “What I know for sure is he’s a very smart man who can bring his data and his evidence base forward.”

I'm formerly obese and lost over 20 years pounds since last October.

But YES, if someone is head of department of health, they NEED to be healthy.

I'm not going to trust someone who says I must do XYZ to be healthy, when in reality, they are unhealthy.

Obesity is NOT healthy.

Happy to hear Levine will be out soon!

He's a joke!

How do you suppose he will overcome that hurdle? The GOP always touts fewer regulations not the many many more it would take to change the American diet.
Its about time that someone has asked the most obvious question about all of this.

FDA staffers play a pivotal role in drug approvals, presenting evidence to the agency's advisory panels and influencing or making approval decisions.
Presenting evidence given to them by the manufacturers.

Or lack thereof; and the lobbyists have managed to get laws passed that your doctor doesn't even have to inform you of the side effects anymore; and laws have been placed to make it nearly impossible to sue the drug companies.

I would say that, this is precisely why RFKs position is problematic. Because RFK Jr is putting the focus on the regulatory agencies, when ultimately, the regulatory agencies are more so to some extent, utilized as pawns by larger figures such as lobbyists that are leading the agencies.

Kind of like blaming police officers for the actions of a criminal, and then in response, assigning a criminal as administrator of the police in an effort to change that.

Alternatively, we could consider an approach of blaming the companies that are actually making these chemicals and making the false evidence and making the business deals, the companies that are making the money off of the crime. These are the real problems. Not the half-baked regulatory agencies that are deregulated left and right, and have had their teeth removed long ago.

And further deregulation and removal of what few teeth these agencies may have remaining, really is only going to perpetuate the issue. Deregulating regulatory agencies isn't going to slow down or stop chemical manufacturers from making those sales and getting those chemicals in our food.

How do we do that when they are protected by the agency that was created to protect us from them?

You give the regulatory agency more rules to follow for internal checks and legitimacy, and then you give that agency more teeth to fight those fights.

Deregulating and weakening these agencies is not the solution. Unless someone else intends to take on these big industries.

Also, and I just responded above, but a second consideration. Assigning coal lobbyists to the head of the EPA for example, is not a viable solution either. If you're concerned about agencies protecting industries, then the president appointing industry sympathetic lawyers to administer these agencies, obviously is just going to have the opposite effect.

It's like saying, well the cops are protecting the criminals, so let's put a criminal in charge of the cops.

Logic just doesn't work that way.

Rather, you want to reorganize the police, give them internal checks for legitimacy, and strengthen them. That's how you deal with criminals. Not defunding or deregulating the police with the argument that police are "big government". Because remember, police are government staff too.

And it works the same way in the environmental world.

It's like, imagine that you're in a crime syndicate. And you're like, ok, how do we steal more money from the bank? Idea! Let's defund and deregulate the police. Ok great. Now we can get away with more and we can rob more banks.

Ok, people are now starting to complain because their money is being stolen. How do we handle this? Idea! Blame the police for not stopping us, and just pin the responsibility on them. Say that it's the police's fault, because they are actually protecting us. Got it!

That's basically what's happening.

Donald Trump puts two coal lobbying lawyers, Scott Pruitt and Andrew Wheeler, into power to administer the EPA.

Then RFK Jr comes along and says, hey! There are coal waste chemicals in our food! We have to do something!

What is RFKs solution? Blame the EPA! Donald Trump must deregulate the EPA! Unleash American energy, stop oppressing these businesses with all these regulations!

Oh wait, that doesn't make any sense. Ok, let's blame the FDA! They keep approving these harmful chemicals!

Oh wait, the reason they approve those chemicals, is because they've been de-toothed and they do not have the regulatory power to stop the industries from manufacturing and selling those chemicals. Because that would involve greater regulation.

Let's just call a spade a spade. If anyone wants to keep chemicals out of food, that's going to require a heightened level of regulation. That's what it takes.

You can't work backwards and say, we need less regulation to unleash American energy! oh, by the way, somehow that's going to involve more strict control over how these manufacturers handle their chemicals. And somehow this won't actually contradict our efforts to deregulate the oppressive regulatory authorities.

None of this really makes any sense at all.

And it's for this reason that the current administration isn't going to do squat diddly about chemicals in food. They might put something fancy on TV for Americans to think that there's been something special that has been done, but nothing's going to change.

Because the only way to change it, is to increase or to enhance regulation over how those chemicals are used, and that runs directly contrary to what Donald Trump wants to do.

Don't think too hard about this. There is nothing to see here! No contradiction at all...

RFK criticizes big pharma, big Ag, big FDA, big EPA, bit etc etc.

Well, who in American politics loves big business? Who is a big business in and of himself? Who appoints lobbyists of big businesses to administer and run big government?

That's right. There very person who is now promoting RFK. And mysteriously, rather than placing attention on the big companies that are making and selling these chemicals,

Low and behold, the finger is being pointed at regulatory agencies (again), as if somehow the police officer is guilty when in reality it's the burglar performing the crime.

RFK jr's concerns are noble. But Donald Trump is the worst person to support agendas that would require increased federal oversight and regulation of chemicals.

Donald Trump’s choice for the Department of Health and Human Services has sparked outrage from corporate health giants and lobbyists. That’s exactly what we need.
The Washington, D.C., Beltway publications left no doubt about who stood to lose the most after President Trump nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary of health and human services.

Politico highlighted the uproar, reporting fierce opposition from Washington lobbyists to Trump’s decision to place Kennedy at the helm of the $3 trillion health agency. Kennedy’s proposals — tighter pesticide regulations, re-examining vaccine safety, banning processed foods in schools, and overhauling health and food agencies — pose significant threats to corporate profits. Caught off guard, lobbyists are now scrambling to block Kennedy’s Senate confirmation and leveraging connections to minimize risks.
RFK Jr. has consistently unveiled critical truths and fought for transparency in public health.
As a physician committed to my patients, my community, and my country, I fully support Kennedy’s nomination. His lifelong dedication to health, safety, and medical autonomy makes him the ideal candidate for this vital Cabinet position. President Trump deserves praise for this bold and courageous choice.

The United States faces an epidemic of poor health. Over 80% of adults suffer from at least one chronic illness, while obesity rates among children and adults have reached record highs. Simultaneously, drug prices and health care costs continue to soar. Substance abuse plagues society, and mental illness rates rise every year. The role of secretary of health and human services requires a leader with diverse expertise, a broad perspective, and a deep understanding of both health care and the forces shaping the system.
For decades, Kennedy has worked tirelessly for the health and welfare of America’s children. Despite relentless accusations of spreading “disinformation” and “conspiracy theories,” Kennedy is not “anti-vaccine.” Instead, he has championed transparency in vaccine efficacy and injury data, which threatens powerful profit-driven interests. Even the treatments he promoted for COVID-19, such as ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine — once dismissed as “discredited” — have quietly and surreptitiously returned to good standing.
RFK Jr. has consistently unveiled critical truths and fought for transparency in public health. He revealed that no double-blind randomized controlled trials exist for childhood vaccines on the CDC's schedule, a fact that demands scrutiny. Kennedy has also investigated disparities in disease prevalence, finding higher rates of autoimmune diseases, neurological disorders, allergies, and autism in vaccinated populations compared to unvaccinated ones, raising questions that require answers, not dismissal.
Kennedy has vowed to end the financial ties between pharmaceutical companies and medical journals, which have eroded research integrity and left physicians without trustworthy sources of unbiased data. He advocates removing harmful additives, such as trans fats, artificial coloring, and preservatives, from America’s food supply — ingredients banned in many other countries.
Kennedy is also committed to ending pharmaceutical advertising on television, a practice unique to the United States and New Zealand, which compromises media independence. His approach prioritizes the four pillars of medical ethics — autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence, and justice — seeking to restore medical autonomy, personal sovereignty, and an end to mandates that strip individuals of choice.
I understand that Kennedy’s nomination to oversee the massive federal health apparatus is threatening to many, including those associated with the pharmaceutical industry, doctors and the health care systems that employ them, lobbyists, insurance companies, media outlets that have become accustomed to massive pharmaceutical advertising dollars, and the food industry that maximizes profits by using inexpensive but toxic ingredients. But we need qualified leadership at HHS that prioritizes science, the protection of public health, and the well-being of all Americans. The health and future of our country depend on it.
Change, especially radical change, can be difficult — especially for those who have financially and professionally benefited from the status quo. However, our health care system is desperately in need of radical change, which is why I urge the Senate to confirm Kennedy’s appointment quickly so that he can begin the much-needed work to mend our health care system and to make America healthy again.

Most Americans approve of President-elect Donald Trump’s handling of his administration’s transition back into the White House — and are bullish about the next four years, a new poll shows.

A sizeable 59% of Americans support his moves so far, as he angles to stack up his next administration with “disrupters,” while 41% disapprove, according to the CBS News/YouGov survey.

Health and Human Services Secretary-designate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. drew the most positive reactions from poll respondents, with 47% ranking him as a “good” pick compared to 34% saying he was “not good.
