  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

More than 200 Republicans who previously worked for either former President Bush, Sen. McCain, or Sen. Romney, endorse VP Harris

Many of the same people who later worked for the Bush dynasties who squandered much of what President Reagan accomplished. They were probably of the same school ( a succession of politicians, insiders etc.) originally opposed Reagan in the 1976 election.

The Bushes were pro NAFTA buddies with the Clintons. Rewarded handsomely for their sell out of the USA, no doubt.

The number of Republicans of standing, very many of whom actually worked for the guy, including chiefs of staff and even a former Vice President should make anyone pause for thought.

This is unparalled in US politics. You shouldn't be impressed. You should be concerned.
You know Project 2025 is NOT Trump's policy. It has been debunked numerous times. Yet propagandists continue to push it as if it is, and that includes even Harris and Walz and all those parroting what they said. It is simply a policy guide with suggestions for "the next republican president". Look at the website.

Fact:
"With the goal of shaping policy decisions among presidential candidates, the 2025 Presidential Transition Project announced the publication of the ninth edition of “Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise.” It’s the earliest publication of “Mandate” ever—months before candidates square off in the first presidential primary debate.

A comprehensive policy guide for the next conservative U.S. president, the book pulls from the expertise of hundreds of political appointees, policy scholars, and conservative leaders across the conservative movement. The book builds upon the legacy of the 1981 edition of “Mandate for Leadership,” which appeared on The Washington Post’s paperback bestseller list.

You know Project 2025 is NOT Trump's policy.
I wasn't talking about it. I was explaining to you how a lot of senior Republicans view Trump. And the list keeps getting longer and longer. From here:

'Seventeen former staff members of the late Republican President Ronald Reagan are endorsing the Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris. In a joint statement first obtained by CBS News, the staff members wrote that Reagan, if alive, would have supported Harris.

"President Ronald Reagan famously spoke about a 'Time for Choosing.' While he is not here to experience the current moment, we who worked for him in the White House, in the administration, in campaigns and on his personal staff, know he would join us in supporting the Harris-Walz ticket," the group writes. "The time for choosing we face today is a choice between integrity and demagoguery, and the choice must be Harris-Walz," the group added. "Our votes in this election are less about supporting the Democratic Party and more about our resounding support for democracy."

More than 100 GOP national security figures endorse Harris

More than 100 Republican former national security figures, as well as members of Congress, endorsed Vice President Harris on Wednesday, citing former President Trump’s “demonstrated chaotic and unethical behavior.”

The letter lists a litany of rationales for endorsing Harris and criticizes Trump, saying “she possesses the essential qualities to serve as President and Donald Trump does not.”

“Donald Trump’s susceptibility to flattery and manipulation by Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, unusual affinity for other authoritarian leaders, contempt for the norms of decent, ethical and lawful behavior, and chaotic national security decision-making are dangerous qualities,” the letter states.

“He is unfit to serve again as President, or indeed in any office of public trust.”

Signatories included former Sen. William Cohen (R-Maine), who served as Defense secretary under former President Clinton; former CIA Director Michael Hayden, who served under former Presidents Obama and George W. Bush; former Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte, who served under Bush; former FBI and CIA Director William Webster, who served under former Presidents Reagan and George. H. W. Bush; and former U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick, who served under President George W. Bush.

My apologies if I either confused you with another, or misinterpreted your statement. The post is long now, and I'm not going to reread the entire thing to figure out why I responded to a comment about 2025.

Lots of people are posting that misinformation - and Harris even said it multiple times, that it is "Trump's plan", but it is not. And I don't see where in this post, just looking back a bit, that you referenced it directly. Again, my apologies.

Democracy requires the President to do his Constitutional Job in securing the border, so given all the rapes and murders, and Tren De Agua establishing itself in several cities now, due to the unvetted flooding over the border, that's the primary issue right now. It's only about policy now.

Not personality, of which both have major flaws.

No problem.

The thread is about a raft of senior Republicans warning everyone about what Trump is likely to do to the democratic process. They have been united in saying that he is a danger. To the extent that, despite disagreeing with Harris' policies, they will vote for her in an attempt to prevent Trump gaining access to the White House.

And these aren't just 'people who used to vote Republican'. They include AGs, chiefs of staff, dozens of senior advisors to previous Republican presidents, even a VP for heaven's sake.

Doesn't this make you pause for thought? It's unprecedented.

Reeks of desperation to me.
What is desperate about senior Republicans warning the voters against voting for the Republican candidate? If they get what they want they'll end up with a Democratic president. Doesn't that they still think that's a much better option give you pause for thought?

I guess you can put that down as a rhetorical question because it obviously doesn't.

I skipped the rest of your post. It wasn't relevant.

Maybe some of us feel that these people are part of a system that keeps America in foreign entanglements and are selling us out in the process. With the exception of humanitarian aid in the world, we want America first and more isolationist

They sat on their butts while the Tinammen Square protests were crushed in 1989, originally helped build up Saddam Hussein then kept Iraq under economic ruin for over 10 years, missed the bus on 9/11/2001, gave us Afghanistan, missed the bus on ISIS, gave us the “Arab Spring” debacle, the NAFTA mess, helped create the Ukraine crisis, didn’t seem to back Gorbachev after Reagan left office etc etc. These are good people?

Well, you cut off most of my post which indeed was relevant as it explains why I said what I said, but making sure this opinion to support Harris is so public and carried by all the mainstream media propping Harris up is what appears desperate.

Really, some people who worked for Trump are voting for Harris now. Fine.

This all comes down to "People have opinions".

If it was 'I used to be a Republican but I have now moved more towards the left of centre so I'll probably now vote Democrat' then no-one would blink an eye. But we both know that that's not the case. All these people are Republicans and will remain Republicans, supporting Republican policies and arguing against Democratic ones. These are senior Republican figures who feel that the threat to democracy that Trump presents will cause them to vote for Harris.

Most of those who will be voting him seem to not want to confront this unprecedented situation and have wave it away as if it's some disgruntled politicians. They are not. And they are warning you.

Bush, McCain, and Romney Alumni for Harris Statement

Four years ago, President George W. Bush, the late Sen. John McCain, and then-Gov. Mitt Romney alumni came together to warn fellow Republicans that re-electing President Trump would be a disaster for our nation. In those declarations we stated the plain truth, each predicting that another four years of a Trump presidency would irreparably damage our beloved democracy.

We made those announcements months before lies about a stolen election became everyday talking points and six months before Trump incited an insurrection, cheering on a mob of sore losers and sycophants as they tried to use force to overturn the will of the American public.

We reunite today, joined by new George H.W. Bush alumni, to reinforce our 2020 statements and, for the first time, jointly declare that we’re voting for Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz this November.

Of course, we have plenty of honest, ideological disagreements with Vice President Harris and Gov. Walz. That’s to be expected. The alternative, however, is simply untenable.

Continues...
Well Is this surprising? No

It could be 2,000 or 200,000 "Republicans", and I would not care.

The Republicans of the last 40 years have been the " Washington Generals" to the Democrats ' Globetrotters. They lay down and lose, and get paid handsomely for it. They are in on the fix. They killed their own "Republican revolution" back in the 90's

Establishment Republicans are not interested in anything but complaining on cable news, about how Democrats are "destroying freedom" or something like that, and writing strongly -worded-letters.

Odd that they should recommend voting for them in that case.

It's gives them something to do, in between counting their money, and grinding Americans under their heels.

They are bored so they decide to vote Democrat? Ah well, if that's what you think.
