  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is the Bible (word of God) Man's Instruction Manuel?

Re-read the three temptations of Christ again.
I have many times. The only time Satan quoted Scripture was out of context, when he wanted to off Jesus. The other two temptations had non Scriptural quotes. But Jesus used the written Scriptures all three times.
Therefore, if a human quotes scripture, it also needs to be examined.
Absolutely.
Passages of scripture such as the last half of James Chapter 3 are helpful when examining teachings as godly or demonic.
Especially the part where one is not to lie against the truth. (There is a standard.)
(thus not an instruction manual)
Thus your opinion.

Since one needs to examine motives to determine the validity of teachings, and not the teachings themselves .. this falls under the category of applied philosophy.

There is no instruction manual like that, the bible does not fit the genre.

Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Great example. What does it mean to train a child in the way he should go? What should the training include? Does it look the same for all children regardless of when or where they live? Are all children ready for the same instruction at the same age? How should the training be adjusted (if at all) based on developmental level or personality traits? In the moment (and parenting has gazillions of moments) how do we know what particular training is the most appropriate? Is the outcome of correct training really as guaranteed as this proverb indicates?

This ‘instruction’ on training a child doesn’t actually give us any instructions we can directly follow, does it?

I’m not saying that the bible gives absolutely no instructions. I am saying that it doesn’t seem to work as an instruction manual much of the time.

Maybe to a non-believer who lacks faith.

A genre you decide is philosophy?

Thanks for the discussion, but your responses are turning into personal attacks.

Train anyone to listen for the Voice of the Shepherd. YHVH Willing.
Follow the Shepherd. Always.

These words that I speak to you, they are Spirit and they are life.

There is no instruction manual like that either.

I've been running to churches for 14 years. I've tried them all. I will not even tell you where I am baptised (The One True Church, judging by the evidence). I did not see the Glory of the Gospel until recently.

We have a God that laid down his life for his sheep. Not in the sense of becoming mountains or rivers, but by sending His Son.

Imagine being a God, and sacrificing your son, for human.

I'm surprised the Devil didn't send any of his versions to do the same thing. But it speaks a language he does not understand.

No at best he can just stop you from seeing the Glory.

Train your child to love the lord with all they heart and soul. and no matter what happen to them in life, they will always come back to that. Let's go into Luke 11: 11 And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12 and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. 13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

Let's skip down, but read the whole story, 8 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19 and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

So the point is the son return, even though he did wrong, because he was raise right. These things happen sometime. "Blessed are they that do his commandments that they may have right to the tree of life." (Revelation 22:14).

Instruction manuals are easy to understand and have simple instructions. The fact that you need to study so you can rightly divide the concepts within the text means .. it is not an instruction manual.

The instruction manual for a car or household appliance does not require meditation for days and days.
In most cases we outlive material things, but we will not out live this Bible. You have to choices, either live righteously by following the Bible instructions, or be judge by the Bible. Let's go to Revelation 20: 11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

We believe in the One who fulfilled the rightouesness of the Law, who is the promised hier of the everlasting covenant. Therefore neither circumcision or uncircumcision will profit a man, only Faith in Christ.
I believe to, but what law are talking about here?

This parable gives zero instruction on how to train the child. Neither does the proverb that you quoted.

Since love keeps no record of wrongs, it proceeds much like in the garden where God asks people questions until everything is laid bare. The books are people's hearts. The book of life is the heart of God who is the source of life.

What matters most is if your name is in the book of life.

The bible requires one to read between the lines and apply more than speak, definitely not an instruction manual. It makes a poor substitute for the Holy Spirit who is the real instructor.

I agree we want are names written in the book of life, but we should read on the line, not between. The Bible says "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) In the scriptures it's written in Proverbs 1: 2 To know wisdom and instruction; To perceive the words of understanding;
3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, Justice, and judgment, and equity; 4 To give subtilty to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion. 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; And a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: 6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; The words of the wise, and their dark sayings. 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
