  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Massive protests expected at Chicago’s DNC; police are ready

Dropped out. No one invoked the 25th Amendment.

Even if some people advised or encouraged him to drop out of the race, he still ultimately made the decision on his own. And, given his speech at the DNC, he seems okay with his decision.

-- A2SG, much more so than Trump seems to be....
For someone who wasn't pushed out, it sure took him a long time (and a lot of political pressure from Pelosi, Schumer, the Press, etc.) to make that decision after declaring he was "All in".

I see you've accepted the usual definitions of protest and riot. Well done. Keep hanging in there for some violence. Be sure to stay tuned in. You don't want to miss any.
Wouldn't you want violence on your own side to be recognized, called out, and then stopped before it becomes another Black Lives Matter-type of riot?

Drop Trump for who? Someone has to be a replacement. Sean Hannity? Steve Bannon? Charlie Kirk?

I would go with Ron Paul; with Judge Napolitano for VP.

Many Democrats switched parties to Vote for Paul back in the primaries for the 2008 election cycle; and he had strong support form young people. I believe that he would defeat Harris in a landslide victory.

Yes. But I don't eagerly search the media hoping that some right wing morons will cause trouble just so I can feel all warm and cozy about dumping on Republicans. There is something very wrong about thinking like that.

It was Lloyd who passed fake money first, and then resisted arrest second.
Irrelevant to the murder charge.
Also, the knee on the back thing was standard procedure, and nobody ever died of it unless they took a lethal dose of drugs first.
Obviously had a better understanding after examining the evidence and testimony.

Chicago has their entire police force working 12 on `12 off; their judges have cleared their schedules; and the city has set up special court houses in anticipation to process the masses of violent Democrats coming to town.

Some people turn off the news of a hurricane; because they feel warm and cozy ignoring the news of the coming storm.

Being prepared for trouble should be expected whenever there are large crowds with disparate views. You'd be complainimg if they didn't prepare. But hoping that there will be trouble so you can exploit it politically is an appalling position to take.

Are you suggesting that I'm hoping for trouble; after the terrorist organizers had come right out and said that they are going to make trouble, spreading slogans like "make it great, like 1968?"

Please explain how am I exploiting these terrorists; as I bring awareness of their campaign of wanton violence.

Most of your posts are tying desperately to imply that there is violence already. Gee, a guy burnt a flag.

It is plainly obvious that you are hoping for something more so that you use it for purely political purposes.

That's some nice mental gymnastics, but it doesn't win a medal.
I'm not trying to win a medal. Just pointing out hyperbole when I see it.

If a protest is deemed to be "mostly peaceful," that's not the same as saying it was entirely or completely peaceful. If there were 5 hours of peace but that ended with a half hour of rioting, you can't say it was all a riot. Most of the time, there was no riot. Thus, it was mostly peaceful.

Depends on where you want to place the emphasis. Emphasizing the peace over the riot isn't dishonest, but focusing only on the riot and ignoring the peace entirely would be. Granted, where one places the emphasis is a judgment call, and can often display one's bias, but that doesn't automatically make the report incorrect or even inaccurate.

Some people can be slow in realizing their own limitations sometimes.

As an example, I've needed glasses for distance for a while now, but I never needed them to read. But, after several times when I had to move my book a little further to see small text, my wife suggested I get a pair of reading glasses. "No," I said, "I don't need glasses to read." So I squinted, I moved the book further and further away, and struggled to read sometimes. I even tended to prefer books with larger text, when possible. But I refused to get a pair of reading glasses.

Then, one day, after failing to read the tiny text on a prescription bottle, the wife handed me her reading glasses and said to try it. It worked. So....I got a pair of reading glasses. The smallest magnification possible, granted, but they help.

The wife, she's a smart cookie.

Point being, Biden is 80, but he's more fit and more energetic than many other octogenarians. He probably figured he could do another 4 years, but it was only after being convinced by his colleagues, the press, and probably after seeing how he looked during the debate with Trump, that he finally realized he probably wasn't as up to the task as he thought. It was only then he realized he had no choice but to step down, and let his chosen running mate take over.

At least, that's how I figure it. Obviously, others see it as some kind of coup or something, but that's not even close to the definition of a coup...or reality, for that matter.

When he said he was "all in," I'm sure he was. It just took him some time to realize his limitations.

-- A2SG, unlike some people, who will obstinately deny they ever have any.....

Literally anyone. Trump is such a galactically bad choice that literally anyone would be an improvement.
Something tells me that Trump's haters wouldn't vote Republican even if Trump stepped down.
Besides, Trump isn't a quitter, but I'm sure people would just love to label him as one.

And a jury being threatened by rioters outside the courthouse.
A jury who had just witnessed what rioters had already done to the city they live in.

Maggots dropped in DNC delegate breakfast

Lemme guess....from the environmentalists who think eating meat should be banned in favor of crickets, beetles, and grasshoppers.
But once again, they just gross people out rather than convince them of their own point of view.
