  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Massive protests expected at Chicago’s DNC; police are ready

I think it's anything beyond five police cars being set on fire constitutes a riot.
In some states three people can have a riot and I am pretty sure that burning police cars one two or five is not required.

“We’re not going to allow you to riot,” Police Superintendent Larry Snelling told business leaders and elected officials at a downtown event Monday. “Protesting and rioting are two different things. You have the right to protest, but there will be no rioting tolerated.”

I'm still confused. What exactly distinguishes a riot from a mostly peaceful protest?

Maybe a Democrat can explain this to me in more detail.

I think they played this all wrong....

They should have allowed everyone to riot....then pretend they were super excited about electing Harris, and it wasn't a riot at all.

Why 5? Why not 4? If 4 police cars are burned, along with a murder, and 200 businesses being burned down; could the 200 businesses and the dead body be used as a substitute for the burnt police car deficit?

By holding Floyd's murderers accountable, and by better training for police and recruitment of minority officers, BLM is unlikely to protest.

BLM is unlikely to protest because so many of its local leaders were arrested for fraud.

It's rather well known now the whole thing was a scam.

As for Antifa, it's a verbal characterization, not a movement.

A loose collective of people who hold the same ideological views and organize acts of political violence is definitely a group. I'm sure that it's not as loose a collective as people would claim.

Whether or not someone calls it a movement is pretty meaningless.

It's a far left political violence group that targets white conservatives primarily.

They don't actually care about racist or fascist or theocratic ideologies....they don't organize to counter-protest Hamas loving Jew hating college students....but they will show up if some minor conservative speaker is giving a speech.

A peaceful protest that turns violent is exactly that. A negative catalyst enters a peaceful situation. Sometimes it is adversarial--a counter demonstration conflict.

I don't think we should allow counter demonstrations on the same day as demonstrations.

A concern for all Americans about next week should be this: Iran may strike Israel--which assassinated Hezbollah leaders in their country. The U.S. indirectly financed the incursion into Iran.

Finally this administration uses my tax dollars correctly.

Will our support of Netanyahu's undisciplined overreaches bring even more bloodbaths and deaths, to both Israel, Lebanon and Gaza.

We'll see.

Instead of worrying about anti-Semitism, our Jewish brothers and sisters should remove the reason for Muslim anger--Netanyahu.

I don't think Muslim anger would end if Netanyahu was gone.

An Iranian strike, escalating the violence, can be the catalyst turning a protest in Chicago. Is Netanyahu leading us into a war none of us want?

No....he's defending his nation as he should be.

Wait...are you suggesting that Left-Wing terrorists attempt to suppress free speech?

We believe in free speech and public safety.

Who are "we" again?

Yes....

Actually I'm not just suggesting it, I'm openly stating it. I recall the reaction when their favorite toy was bought by Elon Musk. Lots of pouting and threats of leaving. A level playing field seems unfair when you're used to privilege.

Who are "we" again?

Those who agree lol and none else.

Maybe this will help you get the picture:
It's a shame the masked right-wingers did that damage in order to cast blame on BLM etc, but that's still a far cry from a "burning city". Hiroshima was a burning city. Tokyo was a burning city. Dresden was a burning city. Minneapolis was not.

Some hay was made over a handful of right wing people arrested....but not enough for 3+ billion in damages.

Hiroshima was a burning city. Tokyo was a burning city. Dresden was a burning city. Minneapolis was not.

CHAZ was a multi-week contained experiment in giving the far left exactly what they wanted and seeing what happened. In record time...

1. They erected barriers with armed guards. I guess borders do work.
2. They began extorting local businesses. They couldn't succeed at even basic services for residents so they quickly turned to robbery, it turns out they really don't want jobs.
3. 3 young black men were shot and killed. Ironic, since this is why they forced police out in the first place. It didn't even take a month before they were worse than those they replaced.
4. They blamed those outside the area for the deaths. Despite being prevented from entering.....the CHAZ revolutionaries still decided that it was the fault of police and EMTs.
5. Discouraged and hungry....CHAZ was destroyed.

Lesson? Just because someone proposes a solution doesn't mean that they have any idea what they're talking about.

I'm not going to track down threads from years ago, but it's documented that people were protesting peacefully, then someone posing as a BLM protester breaks some windows, and things go awry while the poser jumps in a nearby getaway car.

Even with all that, Trump said Walz did a great job with his response.

Hiroshima etc were pretty well documented too.

Documented that masked right wingers were identified burning down over 200 buildings all over town in some outlandish conspiracy to blame it on the rioters; because Left Wingers never wear masks; except when they mandate that everyone wears a mask?

There was definitely a handful of genuine right wing agitators.

They didn't start 500 riots though.

If they did...people on the left should lose the right to protest. If a guy throwing a brick through a window turns a reasonable group of people into a rabid mob....those people aren't responsible enough to protest.

Even with all that, Trump said Walz did a great job with his response.

He may have. Portland clearly did the worst.

Hiroshima etc were pretty well documented too.

Right wing agitators throwing bricks through windows prior to the bombs dropping?

Impossible! Everyone knows that Left Wingers are bastions of personal accountability.

Make sure you point that out to Hark.

What people? The protesters were from all across the political spectrum.
Right wing agitators throwing bricks through windows prior to the bombs dropping?
Hiroshima was most definitely documented as a burning city. Minneapolis was not. It remained standing.

200 buildings burned down is no biggie compared to Hiroshima. Is where the bar is supposed to be set?

Actually it was Democrat that gave the order to burn down Hiroshima too.

200 buildings? I believe that the position is that the entire city of Minneapolis was destroyed.
