  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Will Harris accept the challenge to debate Trump?

Um, facts are facts. When somebody gets facts wrong, the moderator points it out. There’s no “voters decide facts,” lol.

Too much of what those on the Left side of the political spectrum refers to as "facts" are simply opinions, name calling, and simply without any basis other than the "fact" that their side has bought into it. So having debate moderators who interfere in the debate by injecting their own opinions or citing biased articles is not appropriate.

If they’re a referee, it’s actually their main job to keep order by pointing out when somebody is wrong, lol.
They are not referee's but moderators - they ASK questions - keep things on point. Watch the Trump Biden debate - it was one of the best moderated in a long, long time.

Moderator - not fact checker - not referee.

A lot of what are facts some people like to classify as opinions because then they can dodge accountability for what they say. It a candidate says “and during X’s presidency, Russia declared war on Mexico and any day they’re going to nuke each other,” the moderator does interject to say “no, they didn’t.”

Trump says he has agreed to 3 debates, Fox, NBC and ABC
If not Harris - her handlers seem to be really hesitant to expose her to any kind of hard questions - or questions at all. I don't think she has the Moxy to debate.

Incorrect again - a moderator is not a fact checker -

As if the moderator of the debate knows everything there is to know about what is true and what isn't. If that's what you think they are, then why the insistence on journalists being the moderators? Why not a panel of legal scholars, judges, scientists and historians?

Another person who didn’t take debate in school, lol.
Your pomposity adds nothing to the discussion, nor does it cast you in a good light, nor does it support your side of the debate. If you went to debate school - you might want a refund.

Sometimes legal scholars, judges, scientists, and historians are moderators of debates…

Not at any presidential debate I've seen. They're always hosted by ABC, CNN, NBC, PBS, etc. with their own journalists being the moderators. Maybe there have been some hosted by other entities with people other than journalists that I haven't seen, but I'm not aware of any.

If you want to learn what a debate moderator does, click here: Moderator Responsibilities
And should the debate be at a NASFAA conference, I’m sure those general and vague guidelines would come into play.

Otherwise, the general guidelines given there, they really don’t apply and I’m not sure why you think they would. LOL

Yes, yes… I’m pompous, I’m not being cast in a good light, I’m this, I’m that, because I’m saying somebody is wrong about something. I’ve heard it before, I’m sure I will hear it again. All that means to me is we’ve entered the “the only response I have to what you said is to lash out” phase of your responses, which means I’ve tapped the well of this discussion with you dry.

In debates in general, the moderator can be anybody. Why the hosts of presidential debates tend to choose their own journalists or personalities to moderate would, I think, be pretty obvious.

Regardless, I see Trump agrees to debate Harris on ABC and I couldn’t be more delighted, lol.

Why don't you address the idea of why a news organization is always the host of a debate?

Ok then. I doubt we'll see Trump's detractors giving him any credit for meeting his opponent at still another Left-leaning news organization. Trump keeps giving in to his opponent's wishes, but he won't get any credit for doing so.
Will there be a 3rd debate? Would Harris be willing to debate him at Fox News? Biden got what he wanted, and so did Harris. So why not have a debate just 1/3 of the time at a conservative venue? It would be an improvement, and a sign that the dems are willing to be reasonable and fair.
