  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If the LORD is the LORD of nations, does he answer if we call ourselves a color?

Since the LORD guides nations- and named his people a nation, should I come to him as an American....or white/black American?

For my part, I think you should come to Him as Tanaya Mays. Besides, He already knows what we've all been through in our lives. ;)

I didn't say introduce.
I know. But that's what it sounds like; approaching God and stating your country.
Meaning, do I mention the problems am having as a white/black American....or just American?
You don't need to mention nationality at all. Just pray, bring your requests and share your needs.
He knows your nationality, colour of your skin etc. He knows what you need before you even ask him.

To pray with purpose for a more narrow path.
You don't need that.
I've been a Christian for more years than you've been alive. Not once have I ever prayed/interceded as a white British girl; mostly English but part Scottish and even a bit of Welsh blood somewhere in the family. Not once has God ever said, "you did not correctly state your nation in your prayer; I'm not answering it."

I don't see what our nation has to do with praying to God.
We're all members of his kingdom, and family, anyhow.

Each of us are individuals and a member of a nation. Each will be judged individually ... and those are members of a nation. It's the individual ... and they make up nations ... God has no prejudice whatsoever.

His people are those in Him (Christ) and those come from various nations.

In Genesis 12, God promised Abraham, “I will make you a great nation (Israel), and I will bless you and make your name great. I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you. In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

All the families of the earth .... not just the nation of Israel.

ALL are one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:28

New International Version

28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Well, we in Jesus are in His nation of Israel . . . not human and land Israel, but we are the holy nation of God.

However, we do live in locations on this earth. And when Pail writes a letter to people of God at a location, he might greet them that are "in" a certain city or region.

And Paul said he was a Roman citizen, though it is clear that was not his identity in the sight of God.

So, I would say what matters is not what you call yourself. God knows who you are.

God does not favor any nation, though, Israel has a special place in God's Kingdom. Not everything has to be nationalism.

We are done here, as I have to debate with some folks about the Olympics.
Okay good luck, and I did not say he shows favoritism.

The Lord guides nations to implement His will. From a spiritual sense, Christians are a "holy nation" according to Peter. Our homeland isn't here. All Christians belong to this family.
Okay this sounds good, but am wanting to serve the LORD of the living for right now.

My prayers are rooted in who I am. I want to make it more narrowed to grow in my purpose. I want to truly know what to pay attention too.

Sometimes I pray to end colorism and racism. Should that be a thing?

Okay, my so do I serve a purpose for just myself?

Which purpose in life are you specifically wondering about, Tanaya? To be a wife? To be a mother? To be a sister? To be a part of your family or local community? To be a good employee (or employer)? To be a child of the Lord and servant of Christ?

There's more than one purpose in life, although I suppose that if we boil it down to the most essential purpose we'd have as a Christian, it's the last option above.

What do you feel you need to "be" for the Lord other than simply coming to Him as .............. the Self you're giving to Him to lead, shape and transform?

Racism is injustice.
Racism is humans saying, "because of the colour of your skin, you can/can't do this, or you are inferior to someone who has a different skin colour."
Sometimes this perceived superiority leads people to treat others differently. It is man's (humans) sin that causes racism.
God is against injustice.

Well I can't help you then, sorry.

We are called to pray for those in need.
Yes, it's difficult to do that. We can't pray for everyone individually; we don't know them or their needs. We can focus on those causes that we know about and pray more specifically then - e.g. if you sponsor a child, find out about that country, pray for rain, for the harvest, for good weather and so on. If you know someone with a certain illness or social problem; find out about that and pray specifically. Pray for resources in your church or problems in the community.
But none of that has anything to do with your nationality. Most of us are a mixture of different nationalities anyway - how would we know how to pray?

The best self we can be, daily, is dead. Empty vessels.

Allow Him to teach you who you are, and allow Him to fulfill your purpose as He defines it.

Galatians 2:20 NIV

"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

I am brown, but here is a verse about how skin color does not matter, as we are all one in Christ, and must approach Jesus as Christians. May I ask, what ethnicity are you? For myself, I am Romani, adopted from Bulgaria in 2001 and have been a US citizen since July 2001.

Galatians 3:28 (NIV): "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
What? You're brown? And we've been toiling shoulder to shoulder all this time? Friend, I'm about as white as they come. They could put me at the end of the runway at night and planes could land by focusing on me as a beacon. So fair, that I get invited to picnics to draw all the mosquitos. Burn so easily that one weekend at the beach fried hundreds of freckles onto my shoulders. I yearn to be any other color!

Bulgaria, huh? My roots are half Irish, half German. America wouldn't let the Irish in around the turn of the century, and I highly suspect they re-spelled my German surname to sound more American because krauts from Hesse, ie: Hessians, fought with the Brits against the Yanks in the American Revolution. Shhh... don't tell anyone.

Absolutely! The LORD has been working on it a long time. By the Providence of God, I am one of a handful of whites in a mostly black Church - and LOVING it!

And a bit of irony, I moved here to the east side, to a deluxe apt. in the sky (ok, the 2nd floor), got my turn at bat, and finally got a piece of the pie! Hmm... you a youngster, maybe? Well here ya go:

Haha, well, no one can tell that I am brown from an online conversation, but I do like your aircraft analogy. ;) Yeah, there was a lot of racism against the Irish in the 19th and early 20th century. Crazy how history from the 1700s impacts more modern history in the 1900s. My parents are white, as I was adopted.
