  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was gonna respond with something like, "oh, it's been this bad before", but then I remembered this Scripture... apparently we cannot imagine how bad it's going to be in comparison to times past:

Matthew 24:21-22 NKJV

"For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened."

If it's true that the quality of life is better for most people than any time in history, apparently it isn't going to last.

As for today, though I'm not a great student of comparative history, I have to wonder whether we are using the best criteria to judge that quality of life. Just one of many factors to consider (in addition to the noted increase in violence) - despite the wealth of the nations, the earth is still plagued by mass starvation in oppressed countries (and even in 'free' countries). We have all the resources to provide for the whole earth, always have I would hazard to guess, but just can't seem to conquer the obstacles to actually stop talking and do it.

And doesn't it seem obscene somehow that those blessed with resources lavish our hard-earned money on being entertained to death, in a futile attempt to escape the vacuousness of our temporal ambitions?

Ah yes, we have been here before... "let them eat cake" and "the earth was filled with violence."

No wonder that God's patience with humankind will wear thin one day. Thankfully there's still hope for the individual through Jesus Christ:

John 16:33 NIV

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
It is getting late here, so God bless. But yes, the tribulation will happen in the future, as end times stuff will get worse.

Biden was baptized as an infant and confirmed. Like Jimmy Carter, who is also pro-choice, his values are about 110% more in alignment with the Gospel than any single-issue Republican.
Is that why Catholic Bishops wanted to deny Joe from receiving communion?

American bishops voted 222 to 8 with 3 abstentions against refusing communion to politicians who support a right to abortion.

Biden, while visiting Italy last month, said Pope Francis told him he was happy he was a “good Catholic” and said he should continue receiving Communion.

Biden, who is a lifelong devout Catholic, was denied Communion in 2019 at a Catholic church in South Carolina over his support for abortion rights.

Pope Francis has spoken out against the moves by some American bishops to permit individual bishops to deny Communion to politicians who support abortion rights. The Communion refusal movement is driven by a more conservative wing of the Catholic Church.

A very few bishops let their political desires overrule Church doctrine.

It doesn't matter how many bishops voted. The simple fact that there was a vote at all is enough to warrant concern. If a single priest had reservations about allowing me to receive communion, I would have to do a lot of self reflection as to whether or not my life is reflecting the values of the church.

Fantine, being pro abortion is to be anti Christian and against the gospel. Abortion is evil despite what the Democrats tell you. Worshipping the democrats is not good. It's as bad worshipping Republican Neocons.

Three out of 222 who put politics above the Church isn't that bad.

Depends on the political ideology of the priest, and whether or not he put that ahead of the Church.

Three bishops opposed to the pope and 222 other American bishops, seem like outliers, don't they?

Pope Francis told Biden to keep taking communion back in 2021 when that bishop said what he did. The Pope is over the bishops.

This only convinces me how non-Catholic Biden is. Francis isn't exactly the beacon of Catholic orthodoxy.

In reality, Donald Trump withheld funds from Ukraine in an extortion attempt to benefit his reelection.
This sounds somewhat similar to Biden threatening to withhold funds unless the prosecutor was fired and Joe said a few forum disallowed words.

I'm not a liberal. This stuff happened many years ago. If you were interested in the truth you would have looked for it already. Peace

Except Biden wasn't president and threatening to withhold funds to coerce another head of state to dig up dirt on his prospective opponent.

The claim: Joe Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion from Ukraine to assist his son, Hunter Biden

While former Vice President Joe Biden oversaw foreign policy in Ukraine, his son Hunter Biden served on the board of Burisma Holdings, the largest gas company in the fledgling democracy.

Despite a recently concluded investigation by Senate Republicans that found no wrongdoing by the Bidens, claims to the contrary have continued to circulate on social media.

Prosecutor was not investigating Burisma at the time Joe Biden called for his removal

Burisma Holdings was not under scrutiny at the time Joe Biden called for Shokin to be removed, per the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, an independent agency that has worked closely with the FBI.

Not that truth means much to the guys peddling the story. But there it is.

Didn't say I was. I'm just noting that the Pope and the American bishops by a 222 to 3 majority did not support the priest's stand on Biden. And yes, that is very significant as to Biden's standing as a Catholic.

It is concerning that a tiny majority of Catholic clergy in America have abandoned Church doctrine for political reasons. But we're all humans and not everyone lives up to his professed beliefs.

Forgot when he broke up his 2nd wife's first marriage. And was dating her while she still lived with her first husband.
