Arp 245 is part of a collection of merging and interacting galaxies catalogued by Halton Arp - Wikipedia
Technically Arp 245 is comprised of NGCs 2992 and 2993, the other small galaxy in the field RFGC 1621 does not interact gravitationally and is further out at 125 million light years.
Wow, I never heard of this Halton Arp guy. The RFGC 1621 galaxy is all alone, it needs some friends. It is a third wheel.

Haha, this is @dlamberth 's thread. :) But yes, I think of Russian interference every time I see the title as well.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. The title has been fixed.

That is alright. I'm not the only Christian guy here into astronomy, the sciences in general, and physics. @dlamberth and @sjastro enjoy astronomy as well. :)
Just to be clear, though I'm very much a Lover of God, I'm also very much NOT a Christian.

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

You're all alone on this, aren't you?

I wrote that I'm not a Christian. I did not write that I do not Love Christ.

Hmm, sorry about assuming. So, you are a Jewish person, if I may ask? Jewish folks love God the Father, but do not believe in the Son. I like my Jewish brothers here, cos hey, Jesus was a Jew also.

Nope, not Jewish. Just a Lover of God is all. It's about having God as ones reality everywhere one looks. The inner eye of Love is the venue. I lean heavily towards those saints within the various Wisdom traditions of the world.

I will not judge, nor is this a place to debate, but the only way one can approach God is through His Son. But, I will keep this thread science related.

One last note and than I'll move on. I think all of that has a lot to do with where one finds Christ within this physical realm. Personally I find Christian beliefs limiting God in that way.

Take the OP that I posted. The merger of galaxies is evolution...in this case, the evolution of the cosmos. It's an example of how God creates new forms, even new life forms in the trauma of cosmic change. As a Lover of God, one sees the Light of Christ within that forever never ending Creating process.

A few words about Halton Arp.
I contributed a few images to a book on his catalogue of peculiar galaxies.

s-l640.jpg

The book also contained a biographical account of Halton Arp who was against the Big Bang theory and claimed redshift of galaxies and quasars was intrinsic not cosmological or Doppler, instead it was inherent to the object itself due to processes occurring within it or in the local environment. This meant two objects at the same distance from Earth could exhibit different redshifts not related to their relative velocity or the universe’s expansion.
According to Arp this put him offside with the scientific community and he suffered the consequences by having his viewing time on telescopes severely curtailed.

This became the rallying call for the electric universe proponents who are aggressively anti-science and claimed Arp was one of their own as being a victim of mainstream science silencing dissenting views.
What these individuals didn't take into account whether Arp actually supported an electric universe and the issue was put to rest when a colleague of mine posed the question to Arp about a year before he died who responded.

Dear JCU student,
I think the galaxies start out as very low mass charged particles.
That would certainly be electric dominated.
But I see no evidence for electric dominated matter on a galaxy scale or cosmic scale today.
Halton Arp
This is a typical dishonest tactic used by electric universe members that any dissenter such as Arp, Alfven or Tesla provides an automatic validation of their model.
Unfortunately many creationists have also embraced the electric universe model as both have the anti-science theme in common.

Well, God bless your endeavors. I am an OEC (Old-earth Creationist), so we both believe on that.

Thanks for the info. We do not live in an electric universe. Goes to show how humans are fallible, and many are anti-science.

This is interesting. Also, in 4 billion or 5 billion AD, the Milky Way is expected to collide with M31.
The cool thing is, it is highly unlikey that any stars will collide with each other, because they are so widely separated in space. Gravitational effects, however, will be catastrophic, slinging stars everywhere.
