I thought that if they sell it, they endorse it.

The store people may ‘endorse’ it or just take the profits. I have known some Catholic bookstore owners who were highly principled but some who were less so. As always and in everything caveat emptor.

I wouldn't be too concerned, honestly.

Automatic writing is bad news. Like the worst news. I wouldn't touch anything talking about how to do that with a 10-foot pole.

It's literally demons speaking through a person. That's how Enneagram started, by these 9 different categorizations of things that was done by automatic writing. Naturally, I don't even get close to Enneagram these days (or really any personality systems besides Big 5) as they almost all have roots in the occult.

I still use Jesus Calling daily and never found it bothersome. After reading the introduction, Young's intention was having you rest in his presence as Jesus speaks to you. I never knew where the automatic writing came from. I knew she mentioned prayer journaling in the introduction that got her nowhere.

I will continue to use it because I find it spiritually uplifting, even as a Catholic.

It's a system of personality. It's based on 9 different "types" of personality. I used to be REALLY into typology (personality dynamics, not in theology) and it's almost all bad news. There is no need for Enneagram. Some churches insist they "work" and so pastors are reluctant to give them up, but just because they work doesn't mean they are good.

It was covered up that it was indeed the method that she used, no doubt to remove any potential loss of revenue from the sale of this book

My Lutheran pastor was leery of her books because they edited out some(other?) things in later books. I don’t know what my Catholic pastor thinks about them.

Being "devout" does not mean that a person also has good spiritual discernment.
(The two don't necessarily go together, hand in hand.)

My local Catholic bookstore was selling the book also. When I saw it on the shelf, I nearly fell over in shock!
After I got over the shock, I reasoned that the person ordering the books in that store just probably does not know much about the book ...
and is lacking in discernment.
