  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As another post made clear, the judge set a bond. I assume his lawyer (or a PD) was there along with a prosecutor. Both at least have an opportunity to make their "offers". It's not like this was some "automatic release" from what has been presented here.
I dunno, we’re what, 15 pages in and I haven’t seen the “revolving-door” trope being trotted out…this is “progress”. Take what you can get.

I think we should get back on topic......wasn't it reviewing the posted articles and then trashing Soros.
I’m sorry, how is “prosecutors are not seeking bail and this is costing them their jobs because people want judges to use ‘bail’ to incarcerate ‘bad people’ before they get their day in court.” off topic?

It’s pointless to discuss this any further. For some reason some people will defend this prosecutor’s actions no matter what. Even to suggest that someone else would have just murmured someone if the offender was locked up. Good job by the prosecutor saving taxpayer money. He got to prosecute a gun charge , a murder and several assaults all for the price of one. Maybe we should always give criminals the opportunity to commit several crimes before looking them up. Think of all the money that will be saved. And the victims? Someone else would have done the same thing if their offenders had been locked up, right?

I’m sure then when it doesn’t cost the good citizens of [wherever this has taken place] a nickel to house these “pre-trial detainees”, it’ll be even easier to warehouse “troublemakers”.
Won’t that be grand?

The militia?

Quote: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Militia = private citizens.

2A means private ownership of guns should be well regulated.

And for the last century, or so, the properly regulated militia is the National Guard. All other militias are illegal by the laws of each of the states.

Already fought in courts and decided.

And the Supreme Court has ruled no such thing.

You should really read your own links.

The American Civil Liberties Union actually sided with Republicans in urging the repeal of the rule, writing in a letter to members of Congress that, "We oppose this rule because it advances and reinforces the harmful stereotype that people with mental disabilities, a vast and diverse group of citizens, are violent."

Just because Obama wanted to make Government even more intrusive and deny the disabled due process, does not mean those mean old Republicans want what you indicated.

If you are against the Republicans in this measure, then you stand against the ACLU also

Who says I don't?

They did exactly what I said they did.

I thought it was an underhanded and weak attempt to smear District Attorneys.

I'm still waiting for you guys to document the links between between Soros and these DA's. So far, all we have is a silly op-ed that references a tweeted image with a grossly inadequate explanation of its supposed "methodology."

Aren't any of you guys making these allegations at all curious about what's behind the allegations you're promoting? Don't you want to understand how this whole thing supposedly works? I like to know this sort of stuff about the things that interest me.

No, it doesn't mean guns should be well-regulated. It means what it says "a well regulated militia". I don't mean to be rude but is English your first language?

In this day and age, each state's National Guard is the equivalent of the state militias when the Constitution was written. MA formed its militia in 1636 to protect its state. The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere describes what a militia looked like.

So if we read the amendment as it is written it's pretty simple really.

Quote: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Each state needed its own (regulated) militia, therefore, the people needed to keep and bear Arms so they could serve in this (regulated) militia. The state didn't provide the guns needed for the militia. If the people couldn't own guns then there wouldn't be anyone to join the militia and protect the free state.

What did these well-regulated militias look like? Well if we believe the Paul Revere poem, they were trained and had a set plan that they were all aware of so that they could work together, not each person determining their own plan.

He said to his friend, “If the British march
By land or sea from the town to-night,
Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry-arch
Of the North-Church-tower, as a signal-light,—
One if by land, and two if by sea;
And I on the opposite shore will be,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex village and farm,
For the country-folk to be up and to arm.”

Just note of the crazies in politics today...

Accounting to Tommy Tuberville's view I think he'd say Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was "woke" or a "snowflake" or something and not acceptable to the military. He wrote poems, read them out loud, and sold them to the public!

That sounds kind of pro criminal. A lot of the posts on this thread do. I’m sure that wasn’t the intention

Can you provide proof that Soros has not financially supported these liberal DAs? If the allegations are false I would like to know.
