When your nation is so preoccupied with political correctness you forgot to be just correct. A white Starbucks manager was fired for refusing 2 black individuals from using the premise toilet. Reason? They were not paying customers. According to report the 2 individuals said they were waiting for a business partner to arrive. Subsequently they were requested to leave the premises and another employee called the police on them when they refuse to comply.

This caused a storm of controversy which to the absolute surprise of no one surrounds racism. If you were to analyze the situation it had nothing to do with race but a run of the mill customer vs company policy issue. Why it turn into a racial issue is not so much the skin color of the people involved but the political environment the US is currently in. Hyper sensitivity to political correctness to the point of absurdity. Fomented by ideologues over the past 2 decades, society itself is now poisoned to view everything through the lens of melanin.

Back in present day, the white ex-manager just won a lawsuit against Starbucks for her racial firing. $25 million worth lawsuit. Some might be saying that the termination was not racially motivated rather just Starbucks throwing meat to a pack of wolves, however there was a black manager in the store who got off scot free from the ordeal. And the jury concluded otherwise.

All these would have been water under the bridge if it was not for the climate being intoxicated with political correctness, CRT, wokeness and all the race based rhetorics. In a way the ex-manager and the 2 individuals were not the provocateurs but rather the victims of the stupidity that is current day America. Play with fire and you're bound to get burnt.

Excelsior!

How did I know this was going to be a white grievance thread?
Because I'm not white and this is just another stupidity I view of the American society today.

If you don't know what race I am, you can click on my profile and see where I come from. Don't just guess. Not everyone sees issues like this in terms of race. I see things in terms of principle. With smiles and love from Malaysians.

That is very accurate, better than google translate. You know the Malay language?

I used Google Translate.

OB
Wow they're getting good at this the last time I tried the Malay language on it, it was very very literal. Can't pick up words with double meanings in different contexts. Of course that was sometime ago.

Yeah, stuff “happens” it’s a funny ol’ world and what some people feel we should remember is this “story”.
Why?

I'm glad Starbucks had to pay 25 million dollars to this white manager. I hope she buys a big beautiful house, in an upscale neighborhood, and lives out her dreams.

So what I get here from this story is racial discrimination does exist in the US. This of course is the anomaly in how differences in races are treated. I mean just today. CRT and what woke actually means isn't something that is just racial rhetoric, what they define is real. The rhetoric in reality is how people politically misuse what it means and how it's employed.

By misuse, you mean like how the two African-Americans pretended that it was because of their color that they were thrown out of Starbucks?

...Because nobody is allowed to just walk into a restaurant and sit down and hang out without making a purchase.

No, that's not what I mean. It isn't usually for people to claim they are being wrongly treated based on who they are. Look at Trump.

It's an incredible period of time we live in.

Two managers - same store - same actions - one black one white.

BOTH performing the self same actions. One is fired for their actions - the other is not.

The manager who was unjustly fired, sued - it went before a judge and jury and won their case. By the preponderance of the evidence presented, they proved they were discriminated against because of the color of their skin.

Yet, there are some who are saying she is wrong - it is an example of white racism. Unbelievable! The person proved their case in court and yet, some still see them as the racist. All because of the color of their skin.

How did I know this was going to be a white grievance thread?
To clarify (for my own edification so I know which position I'll be debating against)

...is the premise
"People from historically privileged groups can't be the victims of overcorrection"?

or

"People from historically privileged groups can be the victims of overcorrection, but have a duty to keep their mouths shut about it as to not offend the gods of intersectionality"?

It's reasonable that they won their case (and I'm glad they did). However, I'm questioning where the $25 million figure came from.

Despite being on the side of the manager, that amount does seem excessive.

If glass door is correct, and the wage range for a Starbucks store manager is $50-85k (depending on the region of the country one lives in), I think a figure like $25 million almost makes a mockery of the civil/tort system.

Even at the high end of that salary range, that amount equates to close to 300 years worth of salary. How does getting robbed of 10-15 years worth of salary justify a 300 year payout?

I've always been something of a stickler on my position that "righting a wrong" should be somewhat proportional, and getting wronged shouldn't be the equivalent of hitting the lottery.

If I had propose a model for how wrongful terminations should be addressed: Payout = Salary * How many more years they would've worked there had they worked until retirement age. (with maybe some consideration for how many years they've already worked there)

There has to be a cutoff somewhere...a person who's wrongfully fired from a $60k/year job that they worked at for 3 years shouldn't equate to "I get to buy a mansion and a yacht"

I might be mistaken, but typically the amount includes punitive damages

On the contrary, Starbucks is well-known for encouraging people to hang out. They were there to buy coffee but they were waiting for a third party.

$600,000 in actual damages and $25M punitive. This will probably be reduced on appeal.

A straw man and a false dichotomy in a single post. Kudos?
