At one time you embraced Christianity.
Then, sixty years ago, you picked up evolution in your studies.
Now you're an atheist.
Is that about right?
Unlike many of the atheists on CF, I've never been a Christian. I was aware of, and had rejected, Christianity well before I'd even heard of evolution. I don't see acceptance of evolution as a necessary component of non-belief.
While I had never believed, the clincher came in my early teens. I was on a long, boring night train ride. To pass the time I was pondering the vexed question of the meaning/purpose of life. It occurred to me that the question made no sense because it assumed that there was a meaning/purpose to life. While I had never seen any reason to believe in your (or any) God, solving this particular problem cleared up a significant question mark.
