Muhammad, on the other hand owned many black slaves, as well as white slaves. In fact, he thought slavery was great.

Good grief. I'd love to hear Ali's explanation for why it's ok that the person he named himself after was a black slave owner.

Incredible.

It is covered in WIKIPEDIA in a quote from him.
First, Cassius (whom he was named after) was ALSO a slave owner.
Second, he did not choose the name for himself, it was given him by the Nation of Islam (Black Muslim) movement of Malcolm X fame.

First, Cassius was at least a slave owner that worked to end slavery.

Second, Nation of Islam may have chosen the name but he was not obligated to accept the name of someone who promoted black slavery. It was still his choice.

Third, the name was changed 58 years ago ... that horse has left the stable. You would do better to mourn the loss of his soul to Islam (and all those he inspired to follow down the path to perdition).

Fourth, he died 6 years ago, so the horse that you are beating is LITERALLY DEAD AND ROTTING!

Fifth, I find this whole topic silly and in poor taste (and I literally hate Islam and never gave any thought to the former boxer). I only attempted to answer a question asked about WHY the boxer would choose the name he chose, since I had read the answer when I looked up the date he changed his name.

I will now abandon you to your folly.
Enjoy.

So, I guess we should never discuss things like black slavery or the holocaust because they are no longer relevant. Thanks for leaving though. This thread was intended only for those who care about humanity.

My but aren't we just the most "woke" SJW on the internet ... keep fighting the good fight and, someday, slavery may be abolished by the 13th Amendment.

First, slavery didn’t end with the 13th Amendment. Since you don’t like to discuss history, I guess you don’t know about the peonage system in the American South.

Second, I think it’s funny how all of the “woke” SJW in these forums seem to hate me and you seem to think I’m one of them.

Third, let me ask you… Is it ok for me to criticize Judas Iscariot for betraying Jesus, or would that be beating a dead horse too?

It's one thing to talk about and yes even criticize historical decisions that still have an effect on the world today. A boxer changing his name 60 years ago is not that.

Actually, people are naming their children Mohamed every day. In fact, it is now the most popular boy’s name in London. That’s disgusting that people would name their child after such a filthy human being.

So the goal is to strain the 60 year old feces left by a gnat that died 6 years ago, in the hope that it will stop the camel of Islam that is raging through London in 2022? THAT'S your game plan!

Why not just create a topic about the spread on Islam in 2022, instead? (just a thought)

Both are reasonable. Why can’t I do both?

You have EVERY RIGHT to do both, however "reasonable" is in the eye of the beholder. (I.E.: a matter of personal opinion)
Tell me, do you object when people tear down statues of Jefferson, Washington, and Lincoln as well? The actions of theirs that were stupid were way over 60 years ago. Are you consistent in your criticism?

There is truth in what you say, but at the end of the day it was still a stupid decision.
Stupid according to whom? - the man made his choice. He was not a Christian and demonstrated it through his name and religious beliefs - it was common sense for him.
I'm willing to bet some on the left would say what they see happening on the right reminds them of those books as well.

Here's a random pick from 2018

Are you sure your fascination with liberals isn't a latent, perhaps subconscious, idea that they're right? Just a thought. Sometimes our phobias about others is indicative of a similarity.
Might I offer a suggestion please:

If you are going to stress a point, it would be better not to use a source that openly supports pedophilia.

You don’t think it’s objectively stupid that he chose the name Mohamed as a statement against white racism , yet Mohamed was a white racist who despised black people? I really don’t know what to tell you.

You mean like how the Quran Chapter 65 verse 4 openly supports pedophilia.

I have no idea what you're taking about so I'll let you worry about it.

To a Christian it might seem 'stupid' - but it makes perfect sense to someone who wants to honor his new faith.

As horrible as it is for him, to slap 'stupid' (a lack of intelligence) on it is misguided in my opinion.

Separate from the spiritual issues, the man was intelligent, thoughtful (although misguided) and highly talented.

If a person has an objective, and they purposely do something that prevents them from achieving that objective, they have made a stupid mistake.

I didn’t say he was stupid, I said he made a stupid mistake. As I said in my original post, Mohamed Ali is one of my childhood heroes. I think highly of him. But as Forest Gump’s mama used to say, “Stupid is as stupid does.”

Let's see:
  • "You criticize a dead man for changing his name when he converted to a popular false religion 60 years ago"
  • "Mobs of people tear down public monuments because they want to rewrite history"
Yup, those two scenarios are practically indistinguishable from one another.
Hyperbole much? ;)

[Yes, I "object when people tear down statues of Jefferson, Washington, and Lincoln".]
