  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So adult teeth, ergo omphalos?
No.

Seth would be the first person on Earth to have milk teeth.

He was also the first person on Earth to have a navel.

This is outside of the realm of Omphalism.

You have no idea how teeth form, do you? You cannot have adult teeth without milk teeth first. And since that's the case there will be scarring -> omphalos.

So your choice now is omphalos or deception.

Adam's teeth didn't "form" -- they came into existence ex materia.

Thus I don't need to know how teeth form, and science can take a hike.

Let me give you a hint: He's twenty years old.
But he isn't. Being 20 has meaning, and it isn't a measure of maturity or size, it's a measure of age.

My Aunt was bent and frail at 65 and my grandfather was strong and fit at 77, but that didn't make their ages 80 and 60.

Genesis literally describes God creating Adam as a mature man who could talk and communicate, but that makes him like a 20-something, not 20.

What about their first born child Cain?

Actually Adam means ruddy skinned.
Better go and update the Wiki reference then:
According to the Bible, the personal name Adam derives from the Hebrew noun adamah meaning "the ground" or "earth". But it is likely folk etymology. Its Biblical and Quranic uses have ensured that it is also a common name in all countries which draw on these traditions. It is particularly common in Christian and Muslim majority countries. In most languages its spelling is the same, although the pronunciation varies somewhat. Adán is the Spanish form of this name.

I suppose I should: הָ֣אָדָ֔ם (hā·’ā·ḏām) Ruddy, a human being.

That reminds me, David is also described as ruddy in 1 Samuel 16:12
Of course this misses the possibility it comes from Akkadian adamu (to make) or even that there is a play on words with Hebrew 'adamah (earth). Obviously writers of stories back then lacked the intelligence for such linguistic subtlety.

I'm not a linguist. I just know Genesis was written in Hebrew and I look words up in the Hebrew to English concordance. Looking a little further I see there's 119 אָדָם adom (red, ruddy) and 120 אָדָם adam (man, mankind) Now in Genesis 2:7 where it says Adam was formed from the dust of the ground, the Hebrew word used for ground is הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה (hā·’ă·ḏā·māh) so in that is seen ha-adam-ah.

You are a dentist, and Adam comes in for a checkup, looking like he did the day he was created from the dust of the ground.

He lists his age as 20 years old, says he has never eaten yet, and you examine him.

Despite being 20 years old, you find no tooth decay whatsoever.

No stains, pits, plaque, chips, cavities, or gum disease.

How would you describe this?

I would say it violates the law of "embedded age."

(Also, your post says that despite being 20 years old, I find no tooth decay whatsoever. I would very much like to be 20 years old again.)

Correct.

In addition, the belief that Adam was created with a navel is part of the Omphalos hypothesis, which is a belief we don't subscribe to.

You mean the belief that God created the universe in such a way that it appears much older than it actually is?

Tell me again about your embedded age idea?
