Could Trump start a nuclear war in his last days?

Along with millions of others I have been watching the recent invasion of the US Capitol building with some dismay. America is meant to be the Light on the Hill and the Leader of the Free world, but here we have an insurrection that threatened to overthrow the normal Democratic process. This was the first time since 1812 when the British did this and included a Confederate flag being waved inside the building. It is clear that Trump directly incited this invasion and repeated various lies about the election process in doing so.

Is this man still in charge of the nuclear football? What checks and balances still exist to prevent a nuclear war authorised by Trump since he has gutted the command structures and replaced them with Trump loyalists? Should the allies of the USA be worried. I understand America has a 25th Ammendment. Is it practical now to get rid of a man who has clearly demonstrated his unfitness for office.

If these are all Trump loyalists how is that an objection?

Even the 'loyalists' he appointed to the courts rejected his frivolous lawsuits. If they won't even go along with that, I really doubt they'd be willing to start a nuclear war.

The Supreme Court has no authority re nuclear authorisation and launches

Highly unlikely he will have that many people more loyal to his ego than to preventing nuclear war.

Given the level of delusion to believe this election was stolen, which led to an interruption of Democratic process unprecedented since 1812 in a war, how can you be sure of that?

Iran's nuclear programme for example
We can destroy Iran with conventional means, and Trump turned down multiple chances to do that during his term. I think he knows that war is out of his element, so he did what he could to avoid it.

I'm sure during the multiple stages of authorisation someone would just shoot him and get it over with.

It's clear he's unhinged and places his ego above all else. Just a shame that people have died for him and his lies despite the fact he wouldn't even blink twice stepping over their bodies if it meant staying in power.

Is he acting rationally right now?

He is acting entirely in his own self interest. What happens when he realises that he lost and is leaving January 20th. He is still the Commander in Chief of the most powerful military ever.

Some of the nuclear facilities would need some very big bangs to destroy as they are deeply buried under ground

Because that is a decision that has to be made at multiple levels between multiple people, who have security clearances. I can't imagine they'd let unstable people in to those positions.

We don't know that they have nuclear weapons yet. Last we knew, they were still years away. And we could bring down their government by force much faster than that in a shooting war, if we wanted a shooting war.

And if there is an actual attack on the USA, how will military people know if an authorisation to respond is a legitimate order from the president or just an unhinged and self serving act?

Protocols. Chain of command.

They do not have weopans, they have a programme which the Saudis, Israelis and Trump want to end. Those facilities might not be vulnerable to conventional attack.

Which the US, the Saudis, and the Israelis have accounted for.
