God has no technical name, because He is one of his kind, just one true God. We use names only to distinguish between similar beings.

YHWH was just a shortage for "I am who I am", it came to usage as His "name" in Jewish nation that needed to distinguish "their" God against pagan gods around them.

Jesus Christ is the earthy name of His Son.

Lord is a title, not a name, but its a traditional translation of YHWH in Septuagint.

The Hebrew name of God found in the Old Testament is a four letter Hebrew word.

The Hebrew name of God found in archaeology sites is that same four letter word.

Here is an example of the name of God found in archaeology.

So the literal translation of the four letter Hebrew word into the English language, would be YHWH.

The translation of the four letter, Hebrew name of God, 'YHWH', into a six letter, English name such as 'Yahweh' or 'Jehovah', is probably not an accurate translation.

The translators used the word 'Lord' simply because the Hebrews would not utter the name of God. The Hebrews thought that uttering the name of God was sinful because the name of God was very sacred.

So the translators decided to follow that tradition in their translation and they substituted the word 'Lord' for YHWH.

Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 and following were written several centuries apart by quite different people. Genesis 1 was actually written last and God is referred to as "Yah". Genesis 2ff has God as "El".

"Jehovah" and "Yahweh" are the exact same name, merely different routes of transmission.

At one time, the letters "J", "I", and "Y" were interchangeable in English. The same was true of "U", "V", and "W". Likewise, the oldest tradition of Hebrew writing did not use vowels. Vowel marks were added later.

So, in Scripture, you had something that could be rendered in English "IHVH", "JHVH", "YHWH", "IHUH", etc., and it was all the same at the time. There is another name that refers to God: Adonai. Some bright boys, entirely on their own, picked one of the tetragrammatons (that's the fancy-pants name for the four-letter sequences) and substituted in the vowels from Adonai, getting Jahovah (why they dropped the final "i", I have no clue). Other scholars decided, instead, that the Hebrew name was a play on the phrase "I am", so they used the Hebrew vowels from that phrase and it became "Yahweh". Same name, different roads.

The idea that Jesus's name is "really" anything among the various languages is silly. That's like saying my father's name is "really" Yochanan. The New Testament explicitly recognized that different languages could render the same name differently. The most striking is "Tabitha", who is also called "Dorcas"--both names are considered equivalent.

So, what? The people who invented "Jehovah" still used that as the basis for the vowels they arbitrarily assigned to the tetragrammaton.
