  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

we will hear that the wealthiest do not pay their fair share of taxes.

Define what a fair share is.

Sorry, but that is recorded on the sacred scrolls kept in the temple and only the priests are allowed to see it.

I never understand what is “fair share” is all about. It is true that big corporation take advantage of tax loopholes and end up paying Zero or 10-12 % of income tax, but that is not illegal. Democrat keep saying “rich don’t pay fair share” but they wouldn’t address the tax loopholes issue because demonizing rich is far easy and rally up their base then talk about tax loopholes.

Define what a fair share is.
A share commensurate with the degree to which they benefit by not having our society and economy collapse.

No one has an idea of what a fair share would be?

Perhaps that is one of the problems we, as a nation faces.

Am I on your ignore list or something, or do you just not know what the Buffett Rule is?

Well, let's say a person who squats in a shack has $10. If the dollar becomes worthless, that person hasn't lost much. But if the dollar becomes worthless, a billionaire loses at least a billion dollars. So the billionaire has much more to lose.

The billionaire has benefited financially much more than almost all people, and should have to put more in to keep everything going.

Interesting.

What about the person who pays little to no taxes (bottom 40%}, yet benefits greatly from the government. Food stamps, housing, healthcare etc?

It isn’t by any means a lavish lifestyle, but they benefit greatly (in proportion).

How do you feel about the top 1% paying 36% of the taxes?

You want to lower the tax rate for the wealthiest? They pay more than 30% right now.
