  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

LDS When did the Mormon Jesus become a God?

Well I think this depends on what Mormon you ask, not all of them belive the same things.

But there is no such thing as this Jesus

There is only one Jesus.

And you and I both know he was always the lord, he was never just a man as scripture tells us even as a babe he was Gods Devine son.

He was even created from God into Mary for this one purposes, as a sacrifice.

But some Mormon people teach God was just a man at one time and that Jesus was created when God had relations with Mary.

And we know for a fact God never had relations, God is a spirit.

A angel of the lord was sent to her.

So they teach some odd stuff.

Why did you say that Jesus became a god at His baptism? That is Jehovah's Witness teaching.

I am not telling you anything. I am showing what the Bible says, and giving everyone who reads this, an understanding from the Word of God, on the Person of Jesus Christ. I thought you were a Mormon, should you not already know this?

I've had various Mormons give various answers to this and can't find an official statement. This thread is about Mormonism. You could copy and paste your post to a thread you start; that way you could delete your information so I can keep this thread on track. Thanks.

I really want information from Mormons.

I'm not saying Mormons are correct in there teachings,

But I am saying they believe In the same Jesus we do, I know, I know many Mormons from my child hood.

The Christian Jesus does not have a grandfather, nor a heavenly mother.

Mormons are Christians. Mormonism is centered on Jesus Christ and His role as Creator and Redeemer. He is not only the center of Mormon worship, He leads the Church personally through revelation to His prophet (the President of the Church) and by giving the authority to church priesthood-holders to act in His name.
Mormons are NOT Christians. Sure Mormons believe in Jesus Christ as lord and savior, but they do believe in a lot of other stuff that has nothing to do with the Bible or Church traditions.

Here’s some weird and crazy stuff I read about Mormonism:

1. Jesus wasn’t born of a virgin, God had natural sex with Mary to impregnate Jesus.

2. Jesus atoned for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane, not on the cross

3. The “Inspired” Joseph Smith translation of the bible is more correct than any other translation of the Bible

4. The Earth is a living entity that must also go through ordinances, death and exaltation. The Flood of Noah was the Earth’s baptism. The fire and burning at the 2nd coming will be the baptism by fire and immediately after, exaltation to a perfect sphere of glass

5. Satan can read your thoughts so praying silently can help keep some of your secrets from him

6. God the father is only one of millions or endless Gods who are all basically relatives, fathers, brothers, grand-gods and so forth to our own God. If we’re worthy, we get to join the God club too.

7. The Holy Ghost goes to bed at midnight, so all dates, sleepovers, or other activities by youth or single people need to end by midnight or else you won’t have protection or guidance against the temptations of the devil.

8. Jesus was supposed to come in the year 2000, but he didn’t.

9. Once the prophet or brethren have spoken, the thinking has been done. Don’t question it.

10. God is a resurrected, extra terrestrial, exalted human male who lives on a planet near a star called Kolob. See Book of Abraham, chapter 3 in Pearl of Great Price.

This isn’t even half of it all, some of the stuff was to embarrassing to put up here.

“Only begotten” means a unique creation of God. There can by more than one unique creation.

While I may not believe in the Joseph Smith revelations or Mormon prophets, they have faith and bear fruit. I’m always impressed when I see them on bikes carrying their faith in Christ.

Wrong

2. Jesus atoned for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane, not on the cross

Both in Gethsemane and on the cross

3. The “Inspired” Joseph Smith translation of the bible is more correct than any other translation of the Bible

Wrong,

4. The Earth is a living entity that must also go through ordinances, death and exaltation. The Flood of Noah was the Earth’s baptism. The fire and burning at the 2nd coming will be the baptism by fire and immediately after, exaltation to a perfect sphere of glass

Something wrong with that?

5. Satan can read your thoughts so praying silently can help keep some of your secrets from him

Lol, where are you getting this stuff?

We pray publicly all the time, and we're encouraged to pray vocally.

6. God the father is only one of millions or endless Gods who are all basically relatives, fathers, brothers, grand-gods and so forth to our own God. If we’re worthy, we get to join the God club too.

Family is a beautiful thing

7. The Holy Ghost goes to bed at midnight, so all dates, sleepovers, or other activities by youth or single people need to end by midnight or else you won’t have protection or guidance against the temptations of the devil.

Lol

8. Jesus was supposed to come in the year 2000, but he didn’t.

No one knows when he's coming, where did you get that?

9. Once the prophet or brethren have spoken, the thinking has been done. Don’t question it.

No true

10. God is a resurrected, extra terrestrial, exalted human male who lives on a planet near a star called Kolob. See Book of Abraham, chapter 3 in Pearl of Great Price.

Well you believe God is an immaterial substance how crazy is that?

There’s no proof in science or in faith that the Earth is alive, there is only one God, he has no brothers mothers or sisters or fathers. There’s no proof Jesus was crucified on Gethsemane, Christians don’t believe God is immaterial we don’t know how his true form looks like nor do we presume to know what it looks like, we just know he came down as a man called Jesus Christ. Mormons believe their “prophets are Infallible, Mormons do hold the Book of Mormon to be the true Bible see here:
Mounting Evidence for the Book of Mormon - ensign
As for the saying the Holy Spirit going to bed at midnight, supposedly Mormons use it to frighten their youth to come home early. See here:
Does the Holy Ghost 'Go to Bed' at Midnight? | LDS Living
That is however blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, Over the years various prophets and apostles in the mormon church have commented on the Virgin birth of Jesus. They suggest that Mary was a virgin in the sense that she had not known any mortal men. But that God has begotten Jesus in the same natural way that we were begotten by our fore fathers, this is however extreme blasphemy do suggest God sexually impregnated Mary who is a mortal human.

Majority of the statements you're made here are incorrect (Mormons don't actually believe that). If I spent the time explaining actual LDS beliefs, would you be interested? (Just to get the facts straight)

This video is reminiscent of how much Mormonism has evolved since the time of Joseph Smith. They've significantly altered the events and replaced the angel Moroni with a vision of God.

It reminds me of the very same kind of radical alteration that the early Christian church experienced when it broke off from Judaism in the late 3rd and early 4th century.

Jesus' early followers were all Jews and proselytes and they all practiced Judaism. They obeyed the commandments and observed Jewish traditions...
