If it's so great, why are only the Democrats for it?
What makes it bad for Republicans?

Edit: I suppose I should show why I'm asking and
why I say the Republicans are not for it.

The Democrats have pushed to get a vote even
though it is likely to fail. They have 48 votes plus
possibly one or two Republican voters. The rest
of the Republicans are against it. Even if it passes
the Senate, it will almost certainly die in the house.
That makes it a no-go whose only purpose is to
create an issue for 2018 elections.
The Senate has forced a vote to restore net neutrality

I'm not a Democrat, but this is one of these cases where I hope Democrats have their way.

What makes it bad for Republicans, not really certain? Maybe someone else might know why.

Net Neutrality is great because if it goes away, the internet may turn into a cable style business. I don't want to pay different packages to access certain websites. Cable packages are dumb and a good reason why millenials ditched it, so if it happens to the internet I don't know what would happen.

Paying for different internet speeds is perfectly valid. No problem there. But, if for some reason Comcast has a beef with mountain bikers and won't allow access to Pinkbike/MTBR/VitalMTB without paying extra, we got a problem. Expand that idea for news/politics/etc. and you got issues.

It's not really a political thing. Really have no idea why a Republican would not want net neutrality, unless they want to start paying extra for things that don't cost them anything extra right now. If what the 'doomsayers' say is correct.

They wish to obliterate genuine free speech and free thought.
Sorry, you lost me. How does supporting net neutrality accomplish the goal of obliterating free speech?

  1. the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites

Curious, did anyone else have a huge red alert page regarding Net Neutrality and asking you to sign the petition that would be sent to Congress , when you tried to log-on here? That was surprising.

Yes, I support Net Neutrality. For as much as I pay for my three tier package that includes Internet, I don't need that provider censoring on my behalf.

It doesn't you just have to remember: no matter what subject is being discussed in a thread, at some point in the thread, a post will try and make the thread about another subject. It's usually best to just ignore that post and keep on discussing the OP instead.

Censorship by service providers. If you have been following Facebook's shenanigans you will know what this is about.

Net Neutering is a huge win for ad companies.

Companies like Google, Twitter, and Facebook have worked up a lynch mob around Net Neutrality because it threatens their bottom line; they make most of their money on ad revenue. Net Neutering prevents ISPs from doing what routers have done for decades: prioritize traffic. This means they could do like one ISP in the UK is doing: blocking ad traffic for the user. Net Neutering is a huge win for ad companies.

What? Net Neutrality's whole goal is to keep service providers from doing just that.

I know the left loves to try and invalidate our thoughts and opinions on issues, such as suggesting we only support (or don't support) things that make liberals go crazy. That's not true at all.

Most of us are for free market. When the government sticks its hands in to try and force businesses to change, that's not free market. That's government control and it's rarely done for the good of the people.

In fact, the government tends to screw up just about everything it sticks its fingers in.

This is very generalized and unproductive to discussions on issues. What good comes from using the word "left"? What does that accomplish in your argument? What is the "left"? Am I a member of the left because I do agree with Net Neutrality, even though I may have never voted for the "left"? ( I need to know what the "left" is to know whether or not I have ever supported this generalization that people tend to use when "debating").

When arguments start by generalizing a group of people they usually end without solving a problem.

So, why didn't you reply to the posters who spoke about republicans or the right? I was speaking about the democrat who said republicans only like things because they make the left go crazy. But sure, you call out my post.

Which one(s) specifically? I see people asking genuine questions on why Republicans are against Net Neutrality. I do not understand why, personally. Net Neutrality only helps ISPs. It leaves consumers at the mercy of their ISP. Why Republicans think that corporations such as ISPs should be able to dictate the internet and what is served to their customers is beyond me.

So I have the same question as them.

If I want to look at Christian content, I don't want some net executive trying to stop me from doing so. So, I'm for net neutrality. I think that this is the reason why the net neutrality banner was on the opening page of this forum if I understand correctly.
