I've had Christians assert this often. Eg, 'free will exists in heaven, but you won't choose evil'. When pressed, they generally explain that while we're technically free to choose evil, we won't have any desire to. Which of course means no free will. If the desire to do evil is removed, then we've been adjusted - that's the bottom line. And here's the fun part ...... they universally overlook the fact that an 80 year lifespan is effectively a zero timespan compared to eternity (in heaven). So for less than a picosecond we have free will, and an eternity of no free will. But god wants us to have free will
He who does the creating also makes the rules regarding the creation. We Christians call the Creator "God."
God is love.
1 John 4:8
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. niv
God created the material universe and all that is in it and He also created all living things including mankind. God created people to freely choose to know, love, and serve Him on earth so that they can be happy living with Him in eternity. However, not all people freely choose to know, love, and serve Him.
Earth is the testing ground, eternity is the reward. The test is love. The people who pass the test of love on earth are approved to live with God forever. The people who do not pass the test of love on earth are separated from God forever.
Unfortunately for the people who do not freely choose to know, love, and serve God while they are on earth, they fail the test of love. Therefore they are not approved to live with God in eternity. There is one place that God created where He cannot live. This place is called hell. Hell is the place where God does not live. Without God's presence in a place (God is love), there can only be hate, pain, suffering, and despair. Indifference and apathy do not exist in eternity. All the people who choose to hate God by failing to know, love, and serve Him on earth condemn themselves to hell for eternity. Each person makes his or her own choice. God forces no person to love Him and He prevents no person from loving Him. God forces no person to hate Him and He prevents no person from hating Him.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8,13
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away....13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. niv
The goal of a person who claims to be be Christian should be to choose/will to become like Christ. If he or she does not desire to become like Christ and strive to become like Christ and do His Father's will, he or she will not be approved to enter into heaven. Christ desires to do His Father's will and He does His Father's will. Therefore, every person in heaven, like Christ, wills to do the Father's will for each of them. The Father (Love) knows what is best for each person that He created and He therefore provides His best of everything for each person in heaven so each person can be fulfilled to the best of his or her ability. Perfection for all.
John 6:38
For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. niv
John 14:12
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. niv
Matthew 7:21
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. niv
John 14:23
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. niv
1 Corinthians 15:24-28
Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For he “has put everything under his feet.”Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 28 When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all. niv
