Socialism isn't Communism, that's so. But what you're describing here isn't even close to being Socialism. Coincidentally or not, that may be why young people and a growing number of Democratic Party people say that they approve of Socialism--they don't know what it is.
If you say that what they support isn't actually socialism, then what's the problem? Why complain about 'socialism' when, as you say, what Democrats want is not even close to being socialism?

lol. You do realize a lot of those in the "state": is also in the evil 1%.
Um yes, what's your point? You seem to be making my point for me.

I'm not even going to bother to check if that is true or not. Even if it were true, if only 11% of the people are benefiting from something that affects us all, then it means that this thing is failing. Make that 49% if you like, it'll still be a failure.
So you envy anyone who makes more than you. I'm no where close to the 1% and I have my needs meet through hard work.

You want to give this government even more power?
No, I said that the state is NOT necessary. That implies that I want governments to have LESS power. You must have misread what I wrote.

I think if they let Sanders win the office the answer will be yes.

And after that will be Communism.

Curious, what does the writing on your avatar say?

According to a recent PEW poll fourty-nine percent of voters under the age of thirty had a positive view socialism whereas only fourty-six percent had a positive view of capitalism. Socialism beating out capitalism in popularity with young voters represents a massive change in public opinion. Not long ago socialism was a smear term conservatives used to scare people with but now it's not so scary but has instead become down right popular. What does this mean for the future of America? Could we see the rise of a new socialist party or the "take over" of the Democratic party for socialism simmilar to the far right tea party take over of the Republican party?

The New Yorker :

"A 2011 Pew Research Center survey found that, among voters under the age of thirty, forty-nine per cent had a positive view of socialism. (Only forty-six per cent had a positive view of capitalism.) Peter Dreier, a professor of politics at Occidental College, who has written about Sanders, says that younger voters “may not be willing to entertain a whole new system, but they are open to a pretty profound critique of the current one. They’re not as naïve as Americans used to be during the Cold War—they know that there are varieties of capitalism, that there is social democracy in Scandinavia and Canada, where the government plays a bigger role in regulating corporations and in expanding the safety net.”

No, I earn significantly above the average income, and I want for nothing. I am jealous of no one. Capitalism fails because there is still abject poverty in a countries where so many of us are rich. I don't want change for my own sake, but for the sake of others. I personally may well be less wealthy without capitalism, but I'm OK with that.

I don't what it like where you live but from what I've seen some of those in poverty weight 300- 400 lbs. I doubt anyone in India in poverty weigh that much.

That has nothing to do with anything. poverty is poverty. Its outcomes are complex.

That's you're measure of poverty? No wonder our country's in the mess it's in.

Burgers cost .99 cents, a salad costs like 6 bucks. Only in America does poverty make you fat.

It's well known that high school kids graduate with poor reading comprehension relative to generations past

It might be well known, but its not actually true.

In the US over the 2010s, the average reading comprehension score of students was 287/500. That's very slightly higher than in the 1970s (286/500) and 2000s (284/500), but marginally lower than in the 1980s and 1990s (289/500).

You can find the data at the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) website. Data goes back to 1971.

The international PISA tests show US reading comprehension scores between 2000 and 2013 have fluctuated between a narrow band of 495-504 out of 600. The US places around 18-24th internationally (out of 40-60 nations tested).

The major problem seen with US reading comprehension is the wide disparity between regions with better schools and regions with worse schools. The NCES tests show that there are better than 10% plus and minus variations between school districts in reading comprehension, which is a much wider disparity than in other industrialised, developed nations.

So you don't have evidence. You have anecdotal stories.

Evidence? How about the fact that young people are all ga-ga over a befuddled old Bolshevik. A guy who's never done anything but live off the public teat as a 35-year career politician, and they think he's an "alternative" in politics just as they thought Obama was. Yes I have anecdotes, but even one is bad enough.
Yes businesses routinely complain about not being able to hire people with the skills they want. Its a complaint that has been heard by every generation in history and is nothing new, nor is it evidence of anything.
You have evidence for that? I have to think economic and technological progress would have ground to a standstill long ago if that were always a problem.
Though I'd love to see some kind of evidence that shows reading comprehension is worse today than in the past, as that strikes me as an incredibly unlikely assertion that would require some serious data to backup. Meanwhile I'm sure you're aware that its very easy to make a 10 minute video showing people give dumb answers to a question when you're willing to edit down the 50 hours of shooting you did to find those 10 minutes of dumb answers.
Standards have been dumbed down, and reading comprehension is subject to interpretation. Who interprets it? Academics. What you say about the videos is true, and that's what I originally thought when this stuff started cropping up. But it's sort of like the Bill Cosby rape allegations - there comes a point where the sheer quantity has to be seen as a quality (of truth). As I said, the videos are a flood, like a cottage industry, they're on news shows, comedy shows, all over YouTube. The fact that you can find even one U.S. college student that thinks France is a planet should be very disturbing to us all.

Exactly. America poverty makes people fat. I can make a super large salad that last for severe meals a lot cheaper than at fast food places. One of the first thing you should cut back to save money is don't eat out.

Politicians usually target the young voters because they are the least informed, being new to politics they are easy prey. Politics is a game, its a soap opera, its car salesmen. Politics are fake. We may as well turn on Pro Wrestling if we are going to believe the news and politicians. Hulk Hogan is as believable as the media and politicians.

Well, if you make an above average income by all means share it willingly, but that is not socialism.

It's paying off for the elite in both parties.
Left and right are false distractions in class struggle.
Yeah I actually tried to resist that idea for years, but I think you're right.
