  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please don't accuse me. I don't have to watch porn to know that junk is slang for private parts. Now I'm not going to say anything more.

You are a gross individual you tell me not to accuse you why you accuse me?

Blame me for pornographic words as if I watch that trash like you do?

Please lets not converse I feel I need a bath after talking to you.

I never accused you. My assumption was that you were ignorant of the double meaning and needed to be alerted so that you didn't do the same faux pas again.

A double meaning for your junk in your post has something to do with immoral sex?
You know what? I'm convinced that you don't read my posts. I'm not going to respond to you anymore.

I'm sure Jesus addressed him in Aramaic. It is given in Greek simply because the gospels are written in Greek, and the meaning of the name was critical. It's really to bad we don't call him Rock in English--we really miss out on the impact.

"Rocky" would do fine. ;)

I was catholic I dont think that affected me to see through that lense, I was able to dump it.
That isn't the point. Whatever faith tradition you belong to, you will argue from Scripture using the understanding that you now hold. When I was Pentecostal and then Baptist, I understood Scripture as I was taught to understand it; until something came along that convinced me that those understandings of Scripture was false. At that point I left.

Don't know how dedicated you were as a Catholic, and how much you knew, and I'm not going to ask that point; but if you were as dedicated to Catholicism as you are now, then at that point in your life, you read Scripture as a Catholic would read Scripture. Now you read Scripture through the lens of whatever faith tradition you belong to or has effected you.

As a Catholic the passages in question, have a few understandings; but one of those understandings is unequivocally speaking about the role of St. Peter. You as a non-Catholic cannot accept that understanding, because if you did, then that would be an issue on how you see the Church. Thus you require a different understanding, that matches your faith tradition.

My point being is that his thread in itself debunks any idea that people read Scripture in a vacuum. The far majority do not; and those few that do, usually walk away from the set of writings more confused than before they read it. Thus the Ethiopian needed Phillip.

The eunuch needed a name, a who the prophet was talking about as the righteousness of God had just been revealed, and Jesus had just fulfilled the prophets words (concerning his sufferings). Philip began there preached Jesus (the name given) and did so from out of the book of Isaiah.

Ok, so you agree that he needed guidance. Case closed.

I think that is quite true. Scripture is very deep, and everyone relies on numerous extra-Biblical influences and oral traditions to understand it.

That is why we need the Bishops in union with the Vicar of Christ to make sure we are following the Holy Spirit.

Yes, the name Jesus Christ is not in the book of Isaiah, who manifested in the eunuch's own time.

Thats all the scripture makes note that he asked after, and Philip preached the name of Jesus

So do you think that if all Phillip gave him was Jesus' Name, instead of expounding upon that question that it would have led to the Eunuch getting baptized? Phillip provided the eunuch far more than just a Name.

Lets not forget what the eunuch said in his wisdom, when Phillip asked him if he understood what he read, that how could he understand what he was reading unless someone showed him.

I already shared that on another thread on the eunuch, ofcourse. After asking the WHO of Isaiahs words which were speaking of (Jesus) Philip obviously told him what Jesus said which is why he asked after that and Philip told him he may (if he believed with his whole heart) and so was baptized and Philip went on his way and the eunuch on his.

I was talking about his interets in the one the prophet was speaking of, the name.

Clip from what I shared (snipped in the middle)

Jesus was NOT an Apostle. Jesus was the Son of God who selected the Apostles. Easy to understand who that mistake happened.

Heb 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
