When I think of charismatics, I think of the worship leader at my friends church. He tries to manipulate people's emotions so that they respond in the way he wants. I've had him stare me down a few times because I didn't have my hands raised or fall in line.

Yeah, that is not right. The problem with the group as a whole is there is way too much focus on emotions and less on reason and sane thinking. I dislike this group, because they turn so many Christians off from believing in anything miraculous or powerful. If the only demonstration you see of the supposed moving of the Holy Spirit is lunacy and confusion, why would you ever believe that anything mentioned in Acts could be decent, desirable, or even for today at all.

4) yes awesome, come look in Holland how great that is. My nephews are both addicted to pot, so was my ex and all his friends in fact half the youth of the city where he lived.

That's definitely the downside of legalizing pot. That said, addiction is a problem here too. I almost wonder if addiction issues might be easier to deal with if marijuana is legalized, because then addicts could seek treatment without worrying about getting in trouble for using the substance in the first place.

I'm sure you know we wouldn't agree on any of these, but I just found taxing prostitution funny ^_^
I agree with Matt on this. I don't think prostitution is moral, but it isn't the government's job to create a moral society. As things are, they're just loosing possible tax money. Also - it's hard to explain all this because of forum rules - but since prostitution is illegal, prostitutes don't have certain legal rights. If someone refuses to pay, they can't sue. Some don't - ummm - take certain precautions, because they can leave a DNA trail. I've actually researched this quite a bit, if you want to message me I can give a clearer argument, or some good links explaining the case for legalized prostitution.

But, of course, for me, the fact that it's a free society is enough of an argument.

I grew up in the hotbed of liberalism; the San Fransicko bay area. but just like having grown up as Roman Catholic, I rebelled from all the liberal indoctrination attempts foisted upon me. I wouldn't classify myself as a right winger, but I am definitely not a liberal either, more independent politically.

*rolls eyes and smiles*

Oh, you're a right winger. Even if you haven't discovered it yourself yet. Now you must come in contact with your true self, and follow your heart to the answer.... :p

I confess my thoughts the 3rd time we had our little stare down weren't very Christlike but if you have to manipulate a response then how can you claim it was a movement of the Holy Spirit? Or if you have bumble bee prayers, speaking in tongues with no interpreter, and mass chaos how is that honoring to God or edifying to the body? My biggest issue with some charismatics is that they place visions or faith words on the same level as Scripture or above it.

I would agree with this. If you have to coerce or manufacture an emotional response, what is the point. My personal view on this is that God is sane and rational. As such, any presence or work of the Holy Spirit should reflect this sanity. If the outcome or demonstration is just weird, insane or strange, you can be sure that isn't the Holy Spirit.

Fair enough, I admit it. Now go after those leftwingers that describe themselves as Moderates or Centrists.:D

I dont think we should get in the habit of legalizing things that have no positive impact, but instead cause harm, death, and addiction just because we need money. Instead cut out the pork and wasteful spending.
