Then, if the letter stands up to historical scrutiny, it can be deemed legit.

In the case of your wife, we know who penned the document and we know who told her what to put in the document and we can question the parties for verification and use outside verification.

In the case of the gospels, good luck doing the same.

You should know, there really is no controversy among the experts. All perceived "controversy" is simply the dust kicked up by cdesign proponentsists, nothing more. Just because someone makes a claim, doesn't necessarily make it valid. You actually have to have valid reasons.

There's no way you can claim to know a man who reportedly lived 2k years ago. Jesus didn't write anything down, so all you're left with is what was written by men making claims about Jesus.

There is no "Gap Theory". That is an abuse of the word "Theory".

Here is the dictionary definition of theory:

“an idea or set of ideas that is intended to explain facts or events

Yes, there is! I’ll give you a couple of examples: Human DNA, and the fine tuning of the universe. There is no way of evolution to have produced this evidence by mere chance.
