Last year, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland held 30 745 Masses, 11 944 Services of the Word, and 29 068 other Divine Services. Out of the total of 71,757 annual church services, eight (8) were Metal Masses. Obviously, the producers were looking to shock their guest to get a big reaction for its entertainment value. I wonder what Pastor McLain's reaction had been, had he been taken to a perfectly ordinary sunday main Mass at the Turku Cathedral instead.

Another episode of The Norden featured a US prison CEO getting a crash course to Nordic correctional system and it really highlighted the absolute Atlantic-wide gap in our deepest societal values. The US-Americans really are a breed apart from the Lutheran Nordic social democratic welfare states. Another eye-opening episode took a Japanese career lady from the über-hierarchical Japanese culture and workplace culture to visit our low to none hierarchical Nordic way of team work. Makes me really appreciate our Nordic values and the just, eqalitarian, moderate society we have managed to create for ourselves. :) __________________

Nighflight is inferring that Muslim immigrants to Scandinavia, the vast majority of whom come to escape the oppressive societies of their birth, are in fact some sort of concerted sleeper cell strategy to take control and form the much prophesied Nordic Khalifa.

Oafman thinks pandering is a shield.

Lol.

http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/110514-725124-sweden-cedes-control-of-muslim-areas.htm

The perils of multiculturalism and open borders have reached critical mass in Sweden. There are Muslim enclaves where postal, fire and other essential services — even police officers themselves —require police protection.
A police report released last month identifies 55 of these "no-go zones" in Sweden. These zones are similar to others that have popped up in Europe in recent years. They formed as large Muslim populations emigrating to politically correct and tolerant European states refuse to assimilate and set up virtual states within a state where the authorities fear to tread.

The reality is, there's a huge difference between Southern USA and Northern Europe... and I'm not just talking about weather (although Southern USA clearly wins in that respect!)

Have you been to the deep South? The humidity can be oppressive.

Frankly, while I've never been to Scandinavia, I think I'd prefer their weather over the weather in the southern US. I think I live about as far south as I care to go. I do not handle the heat well. One can always put on another layer of clothing, but you can only get so naked.

But starting next year, the hotel's marble-and-mirrored lobby and "quiet, peaceful ambience" will play host not to indulgent travelers but desperate asylum seekers.

Germany's fourth-largest city spent almost $7 million to buy the Bonotel this summer. Its doors will soon be shut and its 93 opulent rooms filled with asylum seekers, a move underscoring how Europe's economic powerhouse has been overwhelmed by an influx of people seeking a better life amid a continent-wide border crisis.

I've been to a few Scandinavian countries, and it'd be a great part of Europe to live in, but I think it'd be a challenge to find a decent church. ^_^
Define decent

I'm just assuming there aren't a lot of Christian churches in Scandinavia. I could certainly be wrong though.

Yeah, I'd much rather live in a cooler region than a warmer one. My fair skin is much more accepting of a Nordic climate!

You are. There are plenty churches, they aren't visited very well, though.

Not for long! The Nordic countries are the least vulnerable to climate change, whereas the US southern states are among those losers worst affected.

Yes, you would be wrong. There's a church in every valley and in every hill, both literally and figuratively. Lutheranism and the Nordic social democratic welfare state go hand in hand. Christian religion is everywhere, just that it is not of the "standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others" variety. The "American Pastor" Mclain, to his credit, sees this when he concludes that "God is here."
