  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Even more importantly, how did a small family shovel off the hundreds of pounds of manure that must have been produced on a daily basis?

And how do you store enough food on the boat to feed all those animals for 40 days?
Not to mention the thousands of litres of urine! One would need bilge pumps capable of pumping that amount of liquid including the sea and rainwater that entered the hull. A small family would not be able to cope.

Also if only two of each kind was on board then what was used to feed the carnivores? I am sure the giant carnivores of prehistory both mammals and Dinosaurs had a voracious appetite!

Wooden ships smaller than Noah's Ark were built by other civilizations and seem to hold up fairly well.

The key word is smaller. The square/cube law says that as you scale up to larger and larger sizes, every part of an object gets weaker. Steps must be taken to compensate. A, elephant's legs are much thicker than a mouse, even if you were to scale them to the same size. A wooden ship can only be so big before the timbers have to be so thick there is no room for anything else, or else some of the wood has to be replaced by something stronger and lighter, such as iron supports.

So all the other wonders of the ancient world are incorrect? There are structures and other things we can't even duplicate today. How do you know iron was not available in Noah's day?
This is a blatant fallacy! No one said iron was not available but the quantities of processed iron was not available. As for us not being able to build structures akin to the wonders of ancient times; you are obviously not up to date with the technological capabilities we have today. Not only can we build them but at time scales much less than it took the ancients to build them. It is a matter of economics and not technology. The ancient rulers had the economic means to finance.

Wooden ships smaller than Noah's Ark were built by other civilizations and seem to hold up fairly well. It was not until the Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries that they began using iron in wooden ship construction.

Rain would not cause a boat to sink. Larger boats are less prone to sink this way and the Ark could naturally have had a self bailing design.

That's the point, the ship is too large to hold together with an all-wooden frame. We also know when the Iron Age started, and it was long after the era that Noah was said to have lived... The early Roman Empire was up and running before we mastered ironworking.

Rain would not cause a boat to sink. Larger boats are less prone to sink this way and the Ark could naturally have had a self bailing design.

This is no ordinary rainfall. Remember, this is enough rain to cover Mount Everest in 40 days. Mount Everest is roughly 30,000 feet tall.

So that means that there would be 750 feet of water a day dumped on every square inch of the earth, or 32 feet of water per hour added to the boat, or a little over a half a foot of water per minute throughout the entire hull.

Nothing is going to be able to bail that much water out, it wouldn't have even begun to float when the rain started, much less had the ability to stay afloat.

What makes you think that the earth wasnt flatter before the flood? Is it possible that the large mountains came after the flood? Can not tectonic plates do that? I am unsure. Also it says there was no rain before the flood so minerals might have formed differently black then. After all the world is in a perpetual decay from the Garden of Eden everything gets worse. I am sorry if all i have are questions though.

Is it possible that the large mountains came after the flood?

Nope.

Can not tectonic plates do that?

There's nothing to indicate they can.

Also it says there was no rain before the flood so minerals might have formed differently black then.

The Bible, at no point, explicitly says there was no rain before the Flood. Even if it did, what does that have to do with mineral formation?

Tectonic Plates can not even come close to the rate they would have had to move for that.

The bible does not say that at all.

How do you know Noah was an amateur?
It's just a hunch.

1. He lived in a landlocked area that is now known as New Jersey.
2. Noah didn't build a boat or a ship, he built an ark.
3. It had never rained before the Flood.

The other difference is the Titanic floated but the Ark didn't.
Then how did it get into the mountains of Ararat?
Why does everything creationists believe get crushed by reality?
Because you overlook:

Unless you know something no one else in the world knows that is.
Like your own science?

That says the Ark would only have been lifted a short distance from the ground?

a wooden ship that large would not have been able to stay afloat due to the strain on the hull.
The Ark wasn't a ship.
The only way it would have worked was with iron supports, which were not available in Noah's time.
The Ark had all the Support it could handle ... and more.
Not to mention the absurd amount of rain that would have been falling which would have sank the boat either way.
Okay ... the Ark wasn't a boat.

(Make up my mind, please.)

You are forgetting one thing Dave, the engineers didn't have Gods hand holding up their boat,
or the umbrella God was holding over the ark.
You can't even factor God into the equation and get it right, can you?
