  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A question for the faithful.

Well, if that's all you're going on, then you hold an unjustified belief.

It certainly ISN'T all I'm going on, as I have good reasons for believing what I believe. However, these reasons are not relevant to the question I answered, which was: "Why do you believe other religions than Christianity to be false?". To that question, the answer: "Because they contradict Christianity" is entirely sufficient.

OK, and therefore a muslim is correct in stating that Christianity is false because it contradicts islam.

It gets you nowhere. You must demonstrate Christianity is true or else you are working from an unjustified premise.

Yes it does. I said that "Most of the arguments that atheists toss at me are so absurd and illogical that they tend to strengthen my conviction that Christianity is true." In #36 you responded by saying: "Sounds interesting, will you please post a quoted example?" In #87 I replied by saying this:
Sure. Your claim that "Christianity adopted most of its rituals from the mithra religion" is an example,

So when I request a quoted example from you to justify your assertion that...

"Most of the arguments that atheists toss at me are so absurd and illogical..."

You respond with an assertion made myself? Seriously? Is that the best you can come up with?

That neither addresses my question specifically or directly and does nothing to justify your assertion.

My assertion was not intended as an argument (However start a new thread and I will be glad to engage in an argument) but a personal assertion (relying on memory from research in 2007)it was not atheistic and was neither absurd or illogical however I could understand you percieving it that way if you actually want to believe the apologetic excuses in the links you provided.

since it's blatantly untrue.

Really? christianity has almost certainly adopted some of its rituals and traditions from external sources including mithraism. This is not as blatantly untrue as you choose to believe.

If atheists had the truth of their side, they wouldn't find it necessary to make up such things.

Please name an atheist who made up such things?

So my response in #87 addresses your question in #36. It addresses your question directly and specifically, with an actual quote from you.

Your response failed to address my question.

What on earth are you talking about when you say that #87 doesn't address the question in #36?

If you still do not understand read this entire post again until you do.

This is a rather long drawn out non-answer...

Sorry for assuming others able to comprehend more than simple one-liners.

OK, and therefore a muslim is correct in stating that Christianity is false because it contradicts islam.

No, but he/she has given sufficient answer to the question: "Why do you believe Christianity is false?". I never claimed that other religions WERE in fact false, because I have not claimed to have proven that Christianity is true. That's a topic for another thread. However, I have definitely answered the question, as posed.

It gets you nowhere. You must demonstrate Christianity is true or else you are working from an unjustified premise.

False. If I said: "Christianity is true, and therefore all others must be false", then I should have to establish that the premise was in fact correct, and prove Christianity true.
However, since I said: "I believe all other religions to be false, because I believe Christianity to be true", then I have not made an objective statement about the veracity of Christianity, but merely pointed out the fact that two or more contradicting claims cannot both be true at the same time.

The drawn out part wasn't a problem.... the non-answer part was.

When I say your original response doesn't address my criticism, writing the same response, but only 10x longer still does not address my criticism. I'm sorry if I was mistaken in believing others could to comprehend that point.

That is correct, if Christianity is true, then the other religions are false. If you want to get really technical, the vast majority of Christians are also wrong.

However, I asked you why you hold the belief that Christianity is true.

Go, go man, to the empty tomb. Look with your eyes, feel with your hands, and see...

His body is not there... He has risen. This is the resurrection. This is your proof.

1) Where is the empty tomb?
2) How do you know it was Jesus's Tomb, and he was ever placed there?
3) How do you know he rose from the dead? There are many other (more plausible) explanations why a body would be missing from a tomb.

Read the New Testament. Start with Matthew and read until you finish with Revelation.

There is no map to this empty tomb in the New Testament. Where is the tomb located?

Once you are able to point me to a tomb, then please demonstrate that it is Jesus's tomb, and please further demonstrate that what it written in the New Testament is reliable information.

Read the New Testament. Most Bibles nowadays have beautiful color maps bound within their pages that show you what Jerusalem and Judea looked like then and also now.

Go to a Christian bookstore and look through the reference section. I am sure you will find the answers you seek.

Go to Jerusalem yourself, this great city of Peace, and walk the rough stone and dirt paths, breathe in the air, bend down and touch these ancient roads where righteous men have walked who lived long before you. I am sure you will find what you seek.

Go, be willing to be taught Greek, read the sacred texts for yourself in the Koine of the day. Learn, search, I am sure you will find what you seek...

If you had read the NT yourself you would have known it fails to address these questions, what else can you offer?

So what you're saying is you have no idea where this tomb you speak of is?
