  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I like to call him sweedum-puddin' pops. ;) lolz!

Okay, seriously though, I do believe that men need to feel like their wife's "hero."
Just like most women need that emotional intimate connection, most men need to know that they're respected and admired by their wives.
And most men really do desire to be the "knight in shining armor' to their wives.

At least, this is what Remi tells me.

So I make sure every so often to just say something like: "I just want you to know how admired you are, and how much I respect you."
It's not much, it's not mushy, or even romantic.
But it really fills that need for him, and he acts like I just gave him the best compliment in the world.

Just my take.

Peace,
-Niffer

In essence, I need my husband to be willing to be that "Knight in shining armor ". I need to know he will defend me, put me ahead of his own insecurities, and be willing to make the tough decision of confrontation to others hurting me, if need be. I have no problem defending my husband, so why would he not be happy to do the same for me???
So far, I'm not really certain my husband does or doesn't when I need him to, but that could be a combo of both of us... It's my responsibility to let him know when and what I need, just as he needs to tell me what he needs.

Glory be!

Ah, I just remembered a 'hero' moment!
So an example of how/why I can think of my hubby as my knight.

When I was told I was having an emergancy c-section, it frightened me; but little did I know that when the Dr. was going through all the legal stuff (telling me the risks, etc) it terrified Remi.
I was taken into OR for prep, and my Mum had to pull Remi aside to reassure him.

When he came into the OR, he acted completely calm, told me everything would be fine, and just to think about how soon we'd see Eloise.
I had no idea how scared he was until after - he was strong because he knew I needed him to be.

That is a knight in shining armor. :)

Peace,
- Niffer

So, this was brought up in another thread and was off-topic so I decided to make a thread so as not to derail the other. There was a comment made about a wife not needed a knight in shinning armor or a hero because she didn't see herself as a damsel in distress, but as a capable woman.

I see myself as a capable woman too. I go to school, I do my work without any help from my husband, I discipline myself to get my work done, I get any paperwork for financial aid filled out, paid for and turned in, etc. However, I fondly refer to my husband as "my superhero", "my knight in shinning armor", my Prince Charming". And he calls me "his beautiful Princess". I'm a romantic and I do, to an extent, believe in real life happily ever afters.

So, is your husband your "Knight"? Or is he just your husband? Do you think seeing your husband as a hero or knight would make you not-capable?

If you're a guy reading this, does your wife see you as extra special like her hero or Prince? Or just a regular guy she loves a lot?
Knight, but we take care of each other really.

Well the fair maidens that the knights were out protecting did care for them when they came back so the fact that one may be or be seen as a knight doesn't mean that the care isn't two way.

It has been my experience that a great many women I have known, want their men to be their knight and protector. I think that men quite naturally and have historically also taken that role. I know I will protect my wife until I leave this world if I am able.

Me too. Sadly many women, either from experience or from attitudes absorbed from society believe such men to be incredibly rare.

My wife wanted a knight in shining armor but all I could afford was boiled leather.

That's ok, if you keep running around killing orcs and goblins, you should eventually make enough money to upgrade to a better set. Try raiding some dungeons.

Knights in shining armor..like the real things creep me out a bit, so no, I don't think of my husband as that. :p

He is my best friend, my protector, my partner in crime...I do tell him that he's my super hero...we're nerds so that term works better for us. :)
