I must say, LLOJ, that translation is very difficult to understand and quite clunky to read. Which one is that, praytell?
agree, what translation is it LLOJ?
It is from the T-R greek text which I put word for word, tho you can look at various other translations [along with 3 of the greek texts] at this site

Perhaps because he was hoping for another person to save him and not Jesus.

I think the point of this is that the rich man saw himself as a physical decendant of Abraham and thus could claim a physical relationship with him. Thus his appeal to Abraham. HOWEVER, we know that it is not a physical relationship God seeks, it is a spiritual relationship. The rich man had cut himself off from Abraham as his father in the spiritual sense. He had no claim on Abraham as his spiritual father.

Why shouldn't he be calling the one of the patriarchs of his people?

What other person would that be?
Abraham. Perhaps he was hoping to be saved because he was part of Abraham's family. That doesn't really work. Some of the people listening to the parable had a similar hope, the parable probably burned them up. I bet they wanted to kill Jesus after they heard this parable. Imagine, Gentiles going to Abraham before good Pharisees?

The Judean ruler's hope was both in Moses and the coming Messiah, Whom they of course failed to recognize in Jesus.

This one commentator actually named the house of Judah as symbolizing the richman

Luke 16:28 "For I am having five brothers that he may be testifying to them, that no also they may be coming into the place, this, of the torment/basanou <931>".
Luke 16:29 "Abraham said to him, 'they have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' "

Lazarus and the Rich Man - Here a little, there a little - Commentary

.............While the significance of this seemingly pointless detail has been neglected by scholars throughout the centuries, you can be certain that it did not escape the notice of the Pharisees and scribes to which Christ was speaking.
They thoroughly knew their history and were extremely proud of their heritage. Yeshua wanted those self-righteous Pharisees to know exactly who He was referring to with this parable
This detail cements the identity of the rich man as the House of Judah, the Jews!

Well I just think that since the rich man was Jewish, he identified with Abraham, same as the Pharisees did in Luke 3:8, Matthew 3:9 and John 8:39 etc.
I have the view he could be symbolizing a type of "high priest", such as the one Jesus spoke to in Matt 26:64 :)

Matt 26:64 Jesus is saying to him "thou say, moreover I am saying to ye, from present/now ye shall be seeing the Son of the Man sitting out of rights of the power and coming upon the clouds of the heaven".

Very simple if the answer is aimed at answering your question "why did he call out".

He called out because he was in torment, evidently very thirsty. He could not cross over to the Paradise part where Abraham and Lazarus was so He called out to see if Abraham could send Lazarus to him with a drink.

I guess he should of called out to Jesus instead :)

John 7:37 In yet the last great day of the feast, stood Jesus and cries-out saying "if-ever any may be thirsting, let him be coming toward Me and be drinking"
[Isaiah 43:19/Revelation 21:6]

John 4:13Jesus answered and said to her, `Every one who is drinking of this water shall thirst again; 14 but whoever may drink of the water that I will give him, may not thirst--to the age; and the water that I will give him shall become in him a well of water, springing up to life age-during."

Reve 21:6 And He said to me "it has become.
I Am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. I, to the one thirsting, shall be giving out of the spring of the Water of the Life gratuitously".

Seriously, if, in fact, it is truly speaking of a hell fire do you really, really thing a drop of water off Avraham's finger is going to quench his thirst or be of any comfort? Would even a full bowl of water do the trick? I don't think so...;)

That's what I thought... he didn't know Jesus yet.
How come the demons and evil spirits always seemed to know who Jesus was :)

Acts 19:13 And certain of the wandering exorcist Jews, took upon [them] to name over those having the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, `We adjure you by Jesus, whom Paul doth preach;'
14 and there were certain--seven sons of Sceva, a Jew, a chief priest--who are doing this thing;
15 and the evil spirit, answering, said, `Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with; and ye--who are ye?'
16 And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaping upon them and having overcome them, prevailed against them, so that naked and wounded they did flee out of that house,
