Read Roberts Liardon's book "Breaking Controlling Powers" for a good perspective on how controlling spirit's find their way into relationships. Pastors and sheep too. It's amazing how many families have a controlling parent and how they seek to control their married children. Derek Prince has a good message on his website about this too. God wants us to be free. Jesus is head of the church. Our submission should not bind our spirits, so it's important to judge fruits.

Sometimes both parties in a relationship need to recognize areas the enemy has built lasting strongholds and be firm against even subtle manifestation. If we understand there's no need to be overly defensive, because we know the Lord is on our side. There's no need to be frustrated and angry either because of ignorance. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty!

This is "good". Strange to say! We know that spirits take on names based on behaviors. Pretty much every bad example in the Word has a spirit. Many of them have "root" spirits that enable them to work (i.e., pride, greed, lust).

I've seen this before in a study by Kelley Varner. If you do a study on the kings thirty and one in Joshua, the meaning of their names represent strongholds opposing the inheritance of the believer.

For those who don't believe in restoration as a "new creature", those battles were won individually after they came out of Egypt (the world), crossed Jordan (baptism) and were entering into their Canaan land inheritance. Some casualties took place (for us to learn by) that behooves us to be obedient to the Holy Spirit, or as a result of our compromise we'll have enemies among us that will influence us with their "gods".

As an encouragement to us all... There is more land to take and more freedom and liberty from our enemies as we progress in our walks! The enemies in Psalm 23 aren't in Heaven, they're on earth. (For those who believe they've already received all there is to get, can go back to their regularly scheduled program!)

The satanic armies are very well organized. They have a hierarchy as listed in the Bible, that is similar to the Indian caste system. They always seek promotion and hate those beneath them. If we weren't around for them to try and oppress, they would destroy each other.

They have spirits that run across generations and the same curses that are passed down from your ancestors follow to you (according to the type of curse and the number of generations listed in the Word). Their names are actually specialties and some are more powerful than others. There are some that watch you your entire life and they have "files" of what works on you. You have heard of people having "triggers". They are well placed strongholds built in and given place by people who react in fear and make judgments within their heart (often reflected by your lips). They are legalists and are constantly pleading their case to waste your life in a certain manner. If you give a place for them in your life, they move in quickly. This can be done by speaking in judgment against someone, watching or being a (passive) observer to filth, movies, TV, radio that ministers things that are not of God. The fact that these acts are prevalent in the media is no accident. It is part of a well planned attack to get into your life and home. Think how far we've fallen as a society since the 1950s or early 1960s?

One of their most important attacks is to separate families. God loves families. Another is to separate the Body of Christ. If they can get people to "lone wolf" it by not being in unity with a local body, they will deceive you into thinking God's blessing your life. They'll even ease up on your attacks if they can keep you ineffective in the Body of Christ.

This sounds freaky, but it's really true. This world is littered with them (although you can't see them). Their are many angels here as well and everyone typically has at least one or more from each camp accompanying them through life.

As they say, if you have a call on your life, you have more angels and the enemy sees this and really works to make your life Hell (even more so than in other's lives).

Back to "Jezebel". Jezebel upsets the system of family authority as indicated in the Word. Their are also "Ahab" spirits that enable "Jezebel" spirits by abdicating authority in the man (in authority) and Jezebel is a "control spirit" wreaking havoc in his sphere of authority. This can happen at home, on the job, in church, etc. They are manipulative and are well known for "playing" one person against another.

There are often seen in controlling mothers who manipulate their children even after they move away and marry. We can all be victims of control spirits and a study of this is warranted if you are suffering along these lines.

One of the most important things we can do to relieve demonic oppression is to get our lives in proper order and submitting to God given authority. Not to be manipulated or controlled, but as God intends, which should be a joy. There's a special blessing for submission and it is a sign of a meek spirit. It's necessary if we are to exercise authority that we be under authority.

What's unusual laughter? Are talking about something like Vincent Price or Dr. Evil?

There is "victory laughter" that is a legitimate move of the spirit. satan hates this! Of course satan can fake anything, but the true laugh in the Spirit is God given and is a spite to the kingdom of darkness and their plans in our lives.

We have to be careful what we judge with our mouth. It's better not to say anything sometimes than to speak unadvisedly about things. It's ok to ask and to be teachable in your seeking. We're not expected to just swallow anything. But just like God uses groans and tears in intercession, He also uses laughter in deliverance. There is some reference to laughter in scripture (OT), but God does sometimes move in unusual ways. Everything is to be done in order.

I selected yes... but I would say my real answer is "probably" and "it depends".

The reason I selected yes is that I relate it kind of to the concept of Elijah and John the Baptist. Jesus tells us that John the Baptist came in the 'spirit of Elijah'. Now, I don't know if that means there is an "Elijah spirit" or a spirit named Elijah... I just know that either in some literal, or in some metaphorical sense, John the Baptist came in, or was motivated and driven by the spirit of Elijah, or the same spirit which motivated Elijah.

Now, of course most people are familiar with the "original" Jezebel, wife of Ahab from the OT. There is another mention of Jezebel in the bible and its in Revelation. In the letters to the seven Churches Jesus makes reference to "that woman Jezebel" who was perverting and leading astray some of the people in one of the Churches.

To me, this suggests that there is a common spirit involved. That the person Jesus was referring to was driven by the same spirit as Jezebel.

Jezebel of course is known as a controlling and manipulative woman who ran her husband, King Ahab. However, this is actually not the primary biblical identifier of Jezebel. In other words, she wasn't known primarily for domineering her husband, she was known primarily for perverting the religion of Israel, and leading the people of Israel astray into idolatry. She both attacked God's appointed religious leaders, and at the same time supplanted them with her own.

She was able to do this because the King, her husband, basically abdicated to her will.

Thus, the primary identifier of the Jezebel spirit should be that it leads people astray by subverting the rightful leadership and perverts the true worship of God, usually through sensualism of some sort (which was true of original Jezebel and also Revelation Jezebel).

Yes, the fact that most of us glaze over when we read that verse, implies there are still things we don't understand.

The way I have seen accusations made in churches, have not separated out what is good and of God, and what is simply disagreement.

Many of the recent teachings assert that anyone who goes against any authority is accursed.

If a peer has a spirit, then our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against the spirit. The action taken should not be blame and separation, but freedom and healing. That is our job as Christians, to free each other and heal.

I think that many of us consider it odd that this Jezebel Spirit term popped up so suddenly and became such a prominent teaching, when Christendom survived for centuries without it.

We used to hear "in rebellion" and "dissident" ... and learned that even these titles were not always correct.

It is important to hear out the concerns of people in our fellowship, even if we do not like them or agree with them... if they walk against the tide, ask why.

Take the time to hear out concerns, because structures continually change, and God moves faster than things change. He brings us new challenges all the time, and shows us hidden corruptions while they are happening; so we need to stay in tune with God, not with the tides of the populace.

I knew people born around 1900 who thought the vacuum cleaner was evil.

I've heard of churches being described as having a 'jezebel spirit'. I understood it to mean that they were too authoritative and controlling, with the pastors always seeking more and more power over people.

Because there are billions of demons out there under the control of Satan, there would certainly be a specific demon that would be emulating the same things that motivated Jezebel to be what she was. I believe that she was an ordinary human being who was demonized and controlled by a demon spirit that put her in a place of power to induce the Israelites to worship false idols and do immorality.

Therefore any demon that attaches itself to a person, even a Christian, to induce them into idolatory and sexual immorality would be a similar demon that attached itself to Jezebel. It is that we recognise Jezebel as the example and so when we say a person is demonized by a Jezebel spirit we are saying that the person is being drawn toward the occult or any other false idol, and are being sucked into the vortex of sexual immorality whether hetro or homosexuality. The inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah were controlled by the same type of demons.

The power and control side of Jezebel may not have been a demon, although there are power and control demons that attach themselves to rulers and people in positions of influence and power.

The jezebel spirit will attempt to confuse any site of revival.
This evil demon will fight any move of God.
By complicating, distracting, causing dissension, making false accusations, and stirring up past disputes, she will try to hinder what the Spirit is doing.

Many with the jezebel spirit, will be dormant, hidden, unseen for long times.
This is to build the ‘false walls’ of hope in them, so naive saints, those who are easily bent by every wind of doctrine, will have great trust in
the spirituality of the one with the jezebel spirit.

When revival comes, the Spirit of Truth will bring revelation of the

Why is this?
for those in tune with God, and hearing from Him, will have spiritual eyes to recognize the jezebel spirit in the person.

The demon knows that, and therefore inspires the one with the jezebel spirit to attack the child of God, distract the people from the revelation of her to the evil the demon is trying to point out in the person of God.


Perhaps first, the jezebel spirit tries flattery of the person of God, to test, hoping to deceive them... if the jezebel spirit can get the flattery to turn the eyes of the person of God from God to themselves... get a bit swell headed, and look away from the direction of the plow given to them...

We must not fall for the flattery of a jezebel spirit.

The jezebel spirit will try to unite with the prophet to be a help to him or her,
in the spirit realm.
There goal here, is to be close enough, that when the fall of the person of God is accomplished, they are close enough to take over control of the situation, assume control of the ministry of the prophet.

The goal of the jezebel spirit is control, so as to eliminate the souls coming to Jesus, the revival of the Spirit, the ministry of the person of God...

The jezebel spirit, when in the ministry group will seek to divide and conquer, those in the group. She will make up false accusations
to accuse some with, gossip, suggesting that the person she is telling this lie to is special, and more anointed than the rest, so they can understand what she is about to reveal to them...

The lies that pass about this way, have hurt many a ministry...
We need to reveal those with the jezebel spirit, so as to stop this dastardly evil work.
The jezebel spirits will do anything to control a person of God, ruthless, deceptive, falsely accusing, instilling hatred and fear, mocking and seeking others to believe the evil spread.

The jezebel spirit often takes on the nature of a religious spirit, seeking to look worshipful, holy, a person who fasts, weeps for sinners, etc. But the person is truly evil, and worship is a farce... for it is outward only, and not inward worship of the heart.

The purpose of this deceptive worship is to make others think... "I am spiritual."

And if the jezebel spirit can get others to think that, they may give more respect or responsibility to the one with the jezebel spirit.

Attempts to bolster hope in self, pride in good works,
and joy in what the jezebel spirit tells a person of God that they have great personal accomplishments... Is another ploy...
The jezebel spirit wants the pride to lead to a spiritual fall. .. For we are to keep our eyes on Jesus... not on self... or blessings...
The one who wants one to boast or glory in spiritual gifts, and signs and wonders of the ministry, likely has a jezebel spirit.
The Holy Spirit will want one to joy in Jesus, not self.

The jezebel spirit uses all opportunities to manipulate and control the thinking of people.

When someone speaks the Word, and people listen, she will attack the ‘amens’ as being blind acceptance of the message of the person....

But in the attack, the jezebel spirit seeks just what it is condemning, it wants blind acceptance of what it is preaching...

To blindly decide the person of God is wanting all to accept them, not Jesus... And wants a cult... And if the jezebel spirit can get some to believe that, it will seek to get people to believe that this one with the jezebel spirit was spiritual enough to warn everyone, therefore, all should follow them...

The jezebel spirit will claim dreams, visions, and revelations, about the person of God.
These visions and revelations are all warnings of
hypocrisy, evil, and wrong motives...

They will claim that the people should all trust that vision, dream, etc. as final word on it...
And not have people try the vision itself... but rather put on trial the person of God that the jezebel spirit is wanting to control or destroy.

The jezebel spirit will attempt to find some weakness, past or present in the one being attacked, and this is constantly brought up, to try to emotionally black mail the one they attack.

The jezebel spirit tries to get the prophet, pastor, or one who knows they have authority from God to be spiritually killed, maimed, intimidated, or petrified... so afraid to speak up...

The jezebel spirit will rather destroy the church, or whatever, than to have it follow the one it is attacking...

Like trying to get the opposing ball team to send their outfielders to the showers early, for they need the rest... only to be sure any ball to the outfield then will be a homerun... That is the kind of thinking done by the jezebel spirit...

when the lies are being exposed, and disaster and failure are in sight... the jezebel spirit will begin to use God's name, quote passages about love and forgiveness... seeking to make the one exposing the evil of the jezebel spirit to mean-spirited and unloving...

Jesus took a whip to the moneychangers, and I imagine there were jezebel spirits getting ones to talk and preach after that event, how mean the Lord was, in that to these poor merchants, only trying to make a living...

The evil of a jezebel spirit cannot take what it dishes out..... it cannot stand to be exposed for the lies, the abuse, the evil motives, etc...

So sermonettes on love, compassion, etc. to try to encourage the young saints, to feel pity for the exposing of the sins of the jezebel spirit...​

This wording is consistent with how the word "spirit" is presented in the Bible. Pneuma and Ruwach can mean life, breath, wind, and soul...but also courage, vivacity, sorrow, temperament, even gas.

The word "demon" is never applied in those statements on "spirit of."

Ex 28:3 "You shall speak to all the skillful * persons * whom I have endowed with the spirit of wisdom.

It is tempting to build up a predictable system to manage spiritual warfare, but we need to be careful to see scriptures as they were written.

Isn't that a horrible misuse of religious "righteousness"! Sickening.

Most of the times I hear it used, a minister has a plan and doesn't want anyone slowing the pace, so knocks over congregants in their way, who bring up practical issues that need to be considered. Or who bring up scriptures to straighten a warping doctrine.

The jezebel spirit does not, of course, have any true regard for God... And in the person being influenced by the jezebel spirit, there will be tell-tale signs of this...

To disobey a direct command of Scripture, is no big problem for them... To condone a lie of another...
To lie, be caught in it, and condone it still... These are no problem for the one influenced by the jezebel spirit...

To do dastardly acts, speak words of hate and evil,
falsely accuse and when proven false, not feel any need to apologize... That is indicative of a jezebel spirit...

Satan himself quoted Scripture, but the jezebel spirit will also try to use Scriptures, but do in with twisting, and perversion of such... This is true of not only the jezebel spirit, but all evil spirits...

The jezebel spirit is deceptive, and seemingly religious, and will claim spiritual insight into what is wrong with a person...

The jezebel spirit is subject first to the ‘accuser of the brethren’... And it is obvious in this tactic of the jezebel spirit...

The jezebel spirit will flatter, cajole, and take advantage of the naieve saints... Like Absalom, who also was influenced of the jezebel spirit, one will seek to make others see that they are more honest, more sweet, more wonderful than the one they are attacking... With sweet words, the jezebel spirit
seduces many to believe in them...

No, a true child of God may be blunt, and straightforward... for the true preacher is not trying to just get applause...

The person influenced by the jezebel spirit
is not worried about what God thinks...
But will spread sugar over the hateful evil words they speak... to seduce naive saints into thinking they are so sweet... That is deceptiveness... and needs constant vigilance to avoid being entrapped in it.

Fake prophesying will occur with the ones influenced by the jezebel spirit. the prophecies will be half truths, sometimes copies of prophecies of others, prophesying what the listeners want to hear, to assure that the one with the jezebel spirit gets patted on the back for the prophecies.... They will promise success, victories, healings, etc... Even for the person they attack, will they so prophesy... Carnal blessing are a specialty, for even if they do come true,
the jezebel spirit will not care, for the carnal blessings distract from the spiritual sight and vision we are supposed to have...

A religious spirit is akin to most with a jezebel spirit,
and there will be a religiousness coupled with pride...
And this pride in works, in ‘spirituality’, and in accomplishments will be frequently stated and restated. The jezebel spirit wants to be thought of as the most religious, spiritual person in the group...
And the one with that spirit will try to be the first one
to shout, to sing, to dance, to cry, to fast, to feel a burden. If someone beats that person to any of those, the person with the jezebel spirit will seek to out do the other person... So their shout will be louder, their dance will be more active, their fast will be longer, their burden will be more announced, and
proven to be heavier than any other there... All will be done to promote the jezebel one... To bring glory to the person, and lessen glory to Jesus...​

I've found with spirits, that one of the best ways to understand them is to ask God to show you whatever he wants to about them.
