Is there such a thing as a Jezebel spirit?

Personally,.. no I don't think these listed are principalities or powers. I feel principalities are fallen angels who have certain powers they associate over big regions, and under those regions demonic beings can be active, which in turn afflict mankind and try to thwart GOD's plans.

That's just my opinion on it going off what I have read in the bible so far.

I agree with you here, and thanks for posting so quickly.

As an afterthought, I've often wondered how these 'powers and principalities manifest themselves' - not in broad terms but in specifics.

Well, there is nothing I know of listed in the bible on what it is they specifically do besides hinder GOD and HIS angels. We seen that with Daniels prayers.

Fallen spirits are territorial, as well as mankind is territorial and controlling.

I couldn't find anything else either except for Daniel regarding their purpose. Thanks.

All I know is when I ask God to bind that spirit, certain very domineering self-promoting people get very quiet.
Also once I was watching and prayer-supporting a team of believers who were ministering to a very troubled woman. When they addressed the "Jezebel spirit", both she and her month-old infant who was lying on a couch across the room burst out laughing simultaneously...very weird.

It's doubtful there is a demonic spirit that runs around calling itself "Jezebel". From what I know about demons, they would never name themselves after a human being, and it's likely that what people mean is that there are particular demonic spirits that exhibit the characteristics of the woman Jezebel. "In the spirit of Jezebel" in other words.

Jezebel was blah blah blah, and so this demon encourages such behaviour, but demons have a hundred names depending on where they are and who they're around and if they're being worshipped and so on, so the idea of one spirit running around going "Hey, I'm Jezebel" is borderline absurd.

The Bible only lists one or two spirits by name, Legion and Lucifer. Beelzebub is also referenced but it might be another name for Satan as he seems to go by a few names himself, so then his followers (demons) would probably do the same. I'm sure they have original names, but they aren't really listed and we don't know them.

If you come across a demon that exhibits Jezebel-qualities...I say go the other direction. What a mess!!

The Bible only lists one or two spirits by name, Legion and Lucifer.

"Legion" wasn't the name of one spirit. It was how multiple spirits identified themselves:

""My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are many." And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area. 11A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them." 13He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned." (Mark 5)
Lucifer is not the name of a demon/spirit. The word "Lucifer" is a Latin word (which means that it does not appear in the original Hebrew bible). It was a word which referred to the morning star (i.e. Venus).

It's an urban legend (myth) based on a poor interpretation of Scripture that Lucifer was Satan's name.

Uhm..."my" name is Legion. My is a singular pronoun referring to one's self. So even though Legion represented a multitude of spirits, "he" referred to "himself" as Legion so it's likely that the head spirit of the "we are many" was called Legion. Likely he called himself that because the word legion denotes multitudes. But it was the name he gave Jesus after Jesus asked "what is your name?"

As far as Lucifer...tomato-tomAHto...Satan is listed as a name in the Bible and one of the titles of Satan is the Son of the Morning, so Lucifer (morning star) could likely be a name that he went by. But even if he didn't and Lucifer is not in the Bible (I thought it was) then Satan's name IS in the Bible so we still have him listed.

Legion...and Satan. Other than that, a demon will go by any number of names according to the region it's in, what is does specifically, or who it is worshipped by.

Yeah, except then you ignore the rest of the passage in which "he" refers to "himself" as "us". "My name is legion, because we are many." It's silly to ignore that.

Don't be ridiculous. Think it through. And do some research - a lot of this is historical fact. There's no need to speculate.

The word Lucifer is a Latin word. That means the word didn't show up in the Bible until the Hebrew was translated into Latin in the 4th century AD. Before then, no one would have read the Bible and ever speculated that a possible name for Satan was Lucifer. (Because the word "lucifer" wan not found in the Bible - It simply wasn't there!) Furthermore, in the Vulgate, it didn't appear as a proper name. It wasn't until centuries later that anyone thought "Lucifer" was a name, much less the name of Satan.

Nowhere in Scripture will you see Satan unambiguously referred to as "Son of the Morning".

Isaiah 14:12 is where people get that, but it's based entirely on reading into the text a 'hidden' meaning that isn't there. The text is talking about the King of Babylon. You have to attach a meaning to the text that isn't expressly there to make it be referring to Satan.

Legion...and Satan. Other than that, a demon will go by any number of names according to the region it's in, what is does specifically, or who it is worshipped by.

That may be. I don't really go in for all that speculating about the names of demons. I just think that we should be more careful in how we handle God's word. Speculation and urban legends need to be thrown out.

it's not really speculation though. Demons do go by many names according to their regions and who is worshipping them. This is based on peoples' runnings-in with various spirits, so it's not speculation.

I suppose people don't really look into where the names come from in Scripture. Most people don't take the time to realize what a watered-down version of the Bible we read anyway, so it's natural to assume that the majority of people don't take the time to figure out the origin of names and what not.

And I wasn't ignoring the "we" part of Legion, only saying that the demon speaking on behalf of the Legion probably referred to himself as Legion (capitalized as a proper name) because it was the demon in charge of that particular group of spirits. So rightly he would call himself (and themselves) "Legion" because that is his name.

Was the Dean of the clothmakers guild in Thyatira not a woman called Jezebel? She was a member of the church and was advocating that the believers take the oath of allegiance to the Roman Emperor Domitian, which would involve sacrficing to him as a god.

Hence her bad mention in the letter.

Church history, I suppose. Couldn't find it in Scripture.

I actually voted "other (so no one complains. LOL)." Not because I had a complaint, but because I'm not sure my thoughts and meditations fit in the other offers.

The original reference to the"Jezebel spirit" is to the likeness of her character - and this would apply today whether or not you accepted the historical evidence of another Jezebel.

Because it is in the likeness of Jezebel's nature one would have to conclude that it is a familiar spirit [that's how it fits in the 12 listed], and it is quite likely that spirit will identify itself as Jezebel - thus manifestations using that name.

So I suppose I would say, yes, there is a Jezebel spirit [perhaps many of them] but, no, its not Jezebel's spirit.

Arbiter, thanks for the researched list.

If there is a harassing spirit named Jezebel, then how would one character suddenly pop up in thousands or hundreds of thousands of people who happened to irritate their pastors?

If a demonic spirit is believed to be a fallen angel, then each demonic spirit would have its own name, like angels are named Michael, Gabriel, etc. One being is generally in one place at one time.

Declaring Jezebel spirits has been a very handy way for leaders to squelch people they didn't care for -- people who weren't voting the same way, people who weren't afraid to speak out against sins.

Even the baby laughing situation, however notable, does not necessarily mean there was a spirit named Jezebel. Maybe there was a demonic spirit laughing at how easily we'd buy into that.

I would not make such a big fuss over this, but in the many times I have heard the term used, I have never seen a person truly exhibiting wrong actions. In every case, it was a matter of a shepherd not getting their own way -- imagining that they were king over a fellowship, and ready to strike out at anyone who did not support that sovereignty.

Maybe there is a Jezebel spirit, and maybe not. But there is a much larger issue to address when this word comes up.

The Israelites wanted Saul to be a king, so they could be like the other countries that appeared strong because of a king. God did not consider monarchy His best design for governance, but allowed it and granted the people's request.

We are doing that again -- we want big names in our churches, so our church can appear stronger. We recruit outside our regions, hire big name coaches, pay for promoting our teams. We spiritually compete.

If we were doing everything in love, then perfect love would cast out all fear of Jezebels in our churches.

Characterising a rebellious or irritation person does not necessarily mean they are possessed of a spirit. I do not use that classification, though some who do have had apparent issues with demons in the past.

Irritating pastors is actually not hard to do, and it appears some people go out of their way to do it. I'm sure it works the other way around too. How to resolve that is a work of the Holy Spirit, but we can assist by walking in love.

I do apologise for irritating pastors or people [there's no difference really, only in calling perhaps], which you tend to do when you take a stand on what you believe.

Are all the irritators possessed of demons? I sincerely doubt it, but I hope we can all try to be a bit less irritating.

Revelation 17

1And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great harlot that sitteth upon many waters:
2With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
10And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
11And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
12And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
13These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
14These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
15And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
16And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the harlot, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. 18And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

is this jezebel? is the usa the great city? is the statute of liberty a statute of the spirit of jezebel? has she deceived the whole world? (well mostly) i think so.

i like the part where john wondered in great admiration, right after he saw that she was drunk on the blood of the prophets. talk about a strong delusion! talk about powers of seduction!

i do see the effects of her seduction everywhere daily.
