Student's apparent suicide linked to webcast of sexual encounter - CNN.com

An attorney for the Ridgewood, New Jersey, family said Wednesday, "On behalf of the family of Tyler Clementi, I can confirm that Tyler committed suicide last week by jumping from the George Washington Bridge."

This stupid act caused a person to take his life.
I don't care what the two consenting people are doing,
broadcasting it is wrong.

I hope these students are punished severely. Consequences for their actions. Yes, Christians can support punishment, and not be against Gods word. Everything has consequences, and even Gods followers have to face these.
If there is nothing more then charges they have, I hope the family sues them for money they will earn in the future.

From what I heard it was a same-sex encounter. I think there is a new way for Christians to follow the Biblical commandment on treatment of homosexuals (and since they aren't actually doing the killing, doesn't violate the New Testament modifications to those rules).

Had he not offed himself, the contents of the video would be confined to his former friends who betrayed and Big Brothered him; whereas now the whole world becomes interested in his private life. In summation, suicide was not a wise move on his part, in either a spiritual or worldly sense.

The kid should have owned whatever was in the video. He would have gotten teased a bit for awhile but it would have blown over. The young tend to lack perspective on such things.
He probably was obcessed with keeping that part of himself secret. When it was broadcast to the world, he could not hide it anymore. Someone's sexuality is private(not just being homosexual, but its the one time a person lets down their guard.) Some people can not handle the private moments being made public. This could be the same result for a heterosexual event, the woman or even a reserved man, might be destroyed by it being made public. How would you feel if the most guarded secret in your life was broadcast to the world?

It would have and probably did, make the rounds in most of the dorms and student buildings. Scandal is big in schools. Not confined, everyone he saw could know about the video. Everyone that he knows and trust could have seen him at the most private of moments.
I also wonder if he believed he would face abuse(physical and emotional abuse) because he was outed.
Truly, his world was destroyed by these people posting the video. He could never be just another average person again. Even if only a few people saw it, he would still be subcontious, wondering if the person that just looked at him was thinking of that video. The people laughing in a group, every little action of normal people would cast a doubt in his mind.

Yes, I think he should have talked to someone, tried to work out the emotional problems this caused. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
For anyone that might face something similar, think of the one-ones you leave behind. How about the other person in the video? He lost his privacy, anonymity and a person he cared for. You at least owe the people that love and care for you to try to find a better solution then suicide.

If only it were so simple. Yes, young people tend to lack perspective. They also tend to be cruel as well.

The boys who posted the video and filmed it should be prosecuted for invasion of privacy and I hope the parents of the victim sue the heck out of them.

Once this story has faded from public memory, his death will become yet aother statistic for the "gay people commit suicide more frequently" argument, ignoring the highly relevent fact that it was not his homosexuality that took him to that tragic point, but rather how he was/would be treated for being homosexual that did.

It would be great if he could have just said "Yeah, I like dudes. Made out with one; there's even a video of it" and carried on with his life. Unfortunately, it seems that being open about his homosexuality would have affected his family/friends/social circle/public relationships to a negative degree. It wasn't his homosexuality that made him jump, it was the reactions (or perceived potential reactions) of others that did so.

The right to privacy is not in the Constitution. We pretend its there so people can get abortions.

The Constitution, maybe not (although it is). But the rules of the college has it. So at the very least, the kids that recorded and distributed the video should be expelled.

And I don't quite understand how the right to privacy has anything to do with abortions, especially since this thread is about a gay person who didn't have kids and could not (being a male) have an abortion.

I don't think we agree on much else, but we agree on this. There nothing to feel but tragic sadness over this. We find so many ways to hate and hurt each other.

It's a lovely thing to find common ground.

Sad.Having sex should have be a private matter and I hope the people involve get the max.

Or some may have beaten him to death,For being gay,Or even tormented him until,He killed his self.
