CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, but Y-Adam and mt-Eve are very special kinds of ancestors. Neither of them is actually the last common ancestor of humanity. They are merely last common ancestors in whom all paternal/maternal lines meet. Identifying them ignores all other ways of tracing ancestry. (Which is why they are also horribly misnamed)
The true last common ancestor (the latest person ancestral to all living humans) had to have a partner, because humans are not very good at reproducing asexually. There's your Adam and Eve, if you must have them.

It's a METAPHOR, AV. a METAPHOR. It symbolizes the origins of humans. It would be impossible for us to have our current genetic diversity if we all came from two people 6,000 years ago. Why does everything have to be literal?

Do you really think that all of the stories in the Bible with God are "literally" true? Like Job? You think that Satan strolls up to heaven and they make bets on people? The purpose of the story of Job is not to tell you about the dynamics of God and Satan's relationship. It's supposed to teach you something about loyalty to God even in the worst of times.
The story of Genesis is supposed to tell the story of where we all came from. It's a story that seeks to explain why humans "fell" from grace with the almighty. All of literature tries to answer the question "what does it feel like to be human?" The Bible is no different. Genesis is a snapshot of the worldview that the people at the time had. It's got a lot of their folklore entwined in the moral message. Believing that it's literally about a talking snake cheapens that in my mind. It's far more meaningful as a parable.

It really is just too hard for you to figure out.. isn't it? As I have been saying here for a while, Bible literalists are literalsts because otherwise figuring out the Bible would be too difficult for them.
