The direction in which your toilet flushes is determined by which way the toilet's manufacturer happened to point the jets. The coriolis effect is far too weak to affect this.

Random genetics fact: the only trisomy that is viable is trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), and even then, many spontaneously abort. Embryos with trisomy 13 or 18 can be delivered, but usually live for a month at the most. Any other trisomy of any other chromosome results in spontaneous abortion. Chromosome 21 just happens to be a chromosome where the over-expression of its gene products does not terminate the pregnancy and causes much milder symptoms than the other trisomies.

Fascinating. Recently, a compound in green tea has been implicated in potentially inhibiting a protein over-expressed in trisomy 21 patients. Potential therapy? Maybe sometime in the future! Still in mouse models right now as far as I know.
