  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Who did away with the law?

"I will establish a New Covenant with the house of Israel. . . . I will put my laws into their hands, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people."

"Whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; this is the law and the prophets."
This does not include the ten commandments as given at Sinai. Jer 31:31, 32 says they will not be the same.

Jesus said all Laws can be combined in this:

Love God with all your heart, mind and soul and love your neighbor as yourself.

One simple Law that encompasses all.

Or simply put... follow Jesus. Jesus lived perfectly and set the example for us all. We must remember 1 Cor 13 and to LOVE or what we do is as nothing.

So, hard to do. The rich man who followed those mosaic laws could not give up his riches and pick up his own cross. We all must carry a cross if we are to give up our life for Heaven. Jesus calls us to be like Him...

Who here will give up everything of this world and follow him? That is what the New Covenant asks. Give up your life competely. But who can? We need God because this is impossible. Like a camel through the eye of a needle.

No the law was given to Israel only. Notice the personal pronouns used when God spoke to the COI. All pronouns are limitied in appllication. Personal pronouns are understood by the conversation.
The Children of God
Here they are clearly the COI and not ?Christians. Jew is not synomous with Christian. In fact there are no Jews or Gentiles in Christ. No Jew - No Israel - No covenant (10 commandments). We have a new covenant which just happens to include Gentiles. Read Acts.
Everyone[/quote]No, Jesus was not speaking to the world. Jesus was answering a question asked of Him by a Jew and Jesus responded to him a Jew. You are using the word anthropos to mean the whole world. Context demands this to be specifically limited to the Israelite (Jew). The sabbath was given exclusively to Israel in the ten commandments. Read the Torah. It was not given to any gentile anywhere in scripture.
As far as I know Adam and Eve had it all and "blew it"
I want you to expalin to me how the ten commandments were to be obeyed by Adam and Eve. Who were they going to commit adultery with? Who were they going to honor as momma and pappa?
This?: Therefore, I will hedge in her way with thorns and erect a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths.

I have no idea what you are talking about here. this was not part of my post. I assmue you made a formatting error and are not trying to put words in my mouth.

I hope this helps you follow me. If not say exactly what you are having problems with and I might be able to rephrase.

*general statement and observation*

It is so hard for many to actually believe that it is not in our hands to effect salvation or even keep it. The gospel of good news is called the gospel of reconciliation simply because God is reconciling the world onto Himself through Jesus Christ. Here is what Paul says about it in 2 Cor. 5

18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

How can the Christian with saving faith be under the law when the law had no power over them? God is NOT counting their trespasses against them (those with saving faith) because Jesus has already paid the full price. All of it. Jesus declared His work finished. Those that attempt to follow the law will be judged by the whole law. No thanks.

Yepperz!
And as my bros Saul/Paul and James elaborated on that even more :)

Galations 5:3 I am testifying yet again to every man circumcising that debtor he is whole the law to do.

James 2:10 For whosoever whole the law should be keeping should be stumbling yet in one, has become of all liable.

The 4th commandment is the only one of the ten not recommanded in the NT, even by Jesus (God , Himself). This is evidence that the law was over and no longer had jurisdiction. The law and the prophet were until John. IOW words something else was preached. There are many scriptures that say things like not under the law, dead to the law, end of the law, throw out the law. How does one gather that we are obligated to the law? If you are concerned about behavior consider Gal 5:16-21.

Please explain the word new in Jer 31:31. Please explain verse 32. I simply do not comprehend how not according to means the same. I also do not understand how the word new means the old thing warmed up.

The notion that the death on the cross abolishes or does away the moral law is a fairly new introduction into Christianity, within the 20th century. Here is what bible commentators had to say about the validity of God's moral law based on
Romans 3:31 Do we then make the Law void through faith? Let it not be! But we establish the Law

Jesus said that if we love him then we will keep His commandments.

I love Jesus and I am happy to keep His commandments.

JESUS: If you love me, you will keep my commandments

I especially enjoy John chapts 14-17. Chapt 17 is all about Jesus talking to His Father and I read it often [I spent almost a week translating it] :)

*snip*

John 17 These-things speaks Jesus and lifting the eyes of Him into the heaven *and He said "Father! has come the hour, glorify of Thee the Son that *also the Son should be glorifying Thee". According as Thou give to Him authority of all flesh, that all Thou have given to Him He should be giving to them life age-abiding. This yet is the age-abiding life, that they may be knowing Thee, the only true God and Whom Thou comission Jesus Christ. I Thee glorify upon the land, the work finishing which Thou have given to Me that I should be doing. Now glorify Me Thou Father beside Thyself to the glory I had before the the world to be beside Thee.

I thought Adam and Eve broke the Law?

Then I think Cane broke the Law...

This was before Moses too.

St Paul:
"By one man's disobedience many (that is, all men) were made sinners": "sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned."
Paul's account is just as accurate as the account Moses gave us. Adam, Eve, and Cain didn't transgress the law mediated by Moses, and they didn't even receive the laws ordained in the covenant from Mount Sinai.

Now, how do you expect to read anything on a Ducati 1098, anyway?

I thought Moses received the Law from God???
So did I

Hebrew 12:18 For ye came not near to the Mountain touched and scorched with fire, and to blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

Reve 8:8 And the second Messenger trumpets and as-like a Mountain, great to fire burning, was cast into the Sea and became the third of the Sea blood

Hey Jack, after 13000 posts haven't you located the "quote" function yet? Or is it your intent to add random questions addressed to no one to this thread?
