Why would Paul appeal to Caesar?

Acts 25:11 For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die.
But if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.

Why would Paul appeal to Caesar

Transport - Paul wanted to go to Spain, getting to Rome via a free boarding pass was like taking the redeye flight and with personal attendants. We forget how dangerous foot travel was in those days.

Rome was the center of the Empire; it was where cultures met and religions spread. Jesus commanded His Apostles to preach the Gospel to the whole world. Paul thought, if he was to be persecuted for the Gospel, and persecution builds up the Church, why not preach the Gospel along the way: And why not go to Rome so the Church can be founded and built up by persecution in Rome and the Gospel preached to the known world?

Actually sea travel was pretty rough back then, we know of 4 shipwrecks, but I think there were more. He was smart, better to go to Ceaser instead of those of his former life.

There are other Epistles, like the First Epistle of Peter, in which Peter says "I write you this briefly through Silvanus...The chosen one at Babylon sends you greeting, as does Mark, my son." Silvanus and Mark were companions of Paul, who was already in Rome as is indicated by the mention of Silvanus and by the mention of "the chosen one", which, like "Babylon", is symbolic: "The chosen one" means the Church and "Babylon" means Rome.

Having knowledge of the law. Paul knew of his rights as a citizen and he knew that the evidence against him, would not stand at the highest court in the land.
