I was studying on this verse along with the greek texts and though there is a variance in one of the greek texts [W-H], I was wondering how others view this verse.
The way this is worded, it appears to say do not go beyond "what is written".
Is Paul talking about His letters, or the Gospels and Old Testament or the whole Bible. Thoughts?
4:6 I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers,
so that you may learn from us not to go beyond what is written, so that none of you
will be inflated with pride in favor of one person over against another.

I basically go along with what MrPolo gives us from TA, it is about the OT. Paul has been chiding the Corinthian Church for being puffed up and thinking themselves to be wise.
He warns them in prior chapters and talks about the OT scriptures
1:18 The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19
For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the learning of the learned I will set aside." 20 Where is the wise one? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of the world foolish? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world did not come to know God through wisdom, it was the will of God through the foolishness of the proclamation to save those who have faith.
(The scripture that Paul refers to here is the septuagint version of Isaiah 29:14)
14 Therefore behold I will proceed to remove this people, and I will remove them: and I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will hide the understanding of the prudent.
1:25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. 26 Consider your own calling, brothers. Not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong, 28 and God chose the lowly and despised of the world, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who are something, 29 so that no human being might boast before God. 30 It is due to him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, as well as righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, 31 so that,
as it is written, "Whoever boasts, should boast in the Lord."
(v31 refers Jeremiah 9: 22-23)
Jeremiah 9:
22 Thus says the LORD: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, nor the strong man glory in his strength, nor the rich man glory in his riches; 23 But rather, let him who glories, glory in this, that in his prudence he knows me, Knows that I, the LORD, bring about kindness, justice and uprightness on the earth; For with such am I pleased, says the LORD.
3: 18
Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you considers himself wise in this age, let him become a fool so as to become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God,
for it is written: "He catches the wise in their own ruses," 20 and again: "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain." 21
So let no one boast about human beings, for everything belongs to you,
(v19 refers to Job 5:13) He catches the wise in their own ruses, and the designs of the crafty are routed.(v20 refers to Psalm 94:11 of the septuagint)
11 The Lord knows the thoughts of men, that they are vain.
