I voted no. The reason why is that I do not enjoy the taste of anything fermented. I have drank before, but never because I liked the taste or liked the feeling of being drunk....I remember in high school I took up pot smoking just because it did not have the physical hang over effects. That gives you an idea of how much I like Alcohol.

There is nothing wrong with it as far as I am concerned. Just like there is nothing wrong with guns, Hemp, morphine, painpills or sex. It's how people abuse them that is the problem.

That's my two cents!
well said.:)The gun part caught my eye.

Yes, because it's legal, I do it only in moderation, and I enjoy the taste from time to time to compliment a meal.

I enjoy a Guinness every now and then.
Never tried Guinness. Michelob and Budlight-Lime is ok, but Yuengling Lager is my favorite.

I love wine - mostly Californian at the moment - or at least I did until I got pregnant - now it makes me sick, literally.

Never mind, I also like shorts, Bacardi Breezer - Watermelon flavour and Peach Schnapps, havent tried any yet since I was pregnant - may be a small glass for an up and coming holiday:)

Oh for those in Britain can I recommend Lindersfarne Mead - Its fantastic, costs £8.50 a bottle, you can get it online at the Lindersfarne website, or at Chatsworth Farm shop.

And before I jumped on for drinking whilst pregnant, some research has come out recently that shows drinking in moderation does not by any means harm a developing fetus - think of French women they drink all the way through, and nationally do not have any more birth defects or learning disabilities than any other country (which is what the anti-drinking people claim).

I voted yes. I thought I knew the reason before I read Neph's and Alpine's posts.
Now I realize it is simply because I am Catholic! ROFLOL

I drink wine every night. In the hot summer I drink beer, once in awhile.
I enjoy having one or two glasses of wine of an evening and was happy when my cancer doctor recommended it. I usually drink white wine because reds (my favorite) started giving me sour tummy.
I do not like hard stuff, except maybe a margarita with dinner.

It is true that wine and beer are served at many Catholic events and dinners. The Catholic Church does not condemn moderate drinking. It does condemn drunkeness.

yes because i want to, and i can. plus i dont like someone telling me that abstinence from alcohol will bring me closer to God or Jesus or help me to "walk in the Spirit" better or more. That's a load of crap. So I guess I'm a rebel. Danged redheads.

Yes, I have the occasional beer or glass of wine. But never if I am uncertain whether or not someone watching will be led to stumble by my drinking. I only drink if I am in company in which I am comfortable and with no former alcoholics or current ones. I also do not have any alcoholism in my family history and I don't go out and buy cases of beer and wine. It's usually just on the occasion that it's there (like wine on Friday night Shabbat dinners or family holidays).

Some of us just have more refined tastes I suppose. :p

Ok, but I've tasted beer and it tastes like carbonated urine!

How do I know what urine tastes like? Well, when I was about 10 years old, one of the boy neighbors and i were playing and he gave me this bag of lemonade (that's what he claimed it was) to drink. I thought "Oh that was nice of him" and drank it. But it didn't taste like lemonade at all. That little [so-and-so] tricked me!!  ^_^

Yellow beer I assume, and I agree. Guinness is not "beer", its premium barley nectar.

No - never had a desire to. I have taken very small sips of wine on occasions, sometimes champagne at wedding receptions, but nothing I have tasted has ever made me feel that I am missing out.

Oh tell a lie, years ago at a school end-of-year Spanish party, I tasted Sangria and lemonade. It was pretty horrid, but I drank it. Later, on holiday, my mother insisted on getting this as "it's the only alcohol that Gill drinks". As if having alcohol is a big thing; it's just as possible to be sociable with a glass of orange juice.

Agreed

Why TRY to drink something horrid that's only going to destroy your brain cells in the end.

LOL, hey PC, hows it goin?

 That's the way I have always known it to be. Now yeah, Alpine is right that sometimes people do over do it at these events but I know that alot of non-church goers go to these events, that's just the way it is. The way I have always looked at it, and still do, is that the RCC is welcoming people in from the whole community in hopes that they will decide to start going to church and start seeking God. In this respect I have always seen the RCC as being inclusive, not exclusive.
