I posted this somewhere else but I realized I would get alot more responses if it was in here. I posted it in somewhere else I found first.

Hello. I am talking to a guy who smokes weed etc. I told him that it was a sin. He shrugged and said um why. I said that God does not like it when people get high and smoke weed. He said how you know. I said the bible. He said the Bible never actually speaks about Marijuana itself. But I explained there was bible verses that said stuff that made you realize it was indeed a sin. He said he tell me a example then. I thought and thought and searched my mind, then I said, "Though shalt not be drunk with whine." he said he doesnt drink whine and thats not marijuanna.

So why is it a sin? What are the reasons and what are the bible verses. He is still awaiting my awnser and still smoking weed etc. I am having trouble trying to explain to him so I need help, and posts in here i can read and then repeat them to him.
I'm not an expert on this but I have no evidence that says that weed is a sin if you used it to not get high. It is however against the law. My opinion that if it were legal, then the same rules against drunkeness (which is advised against in scripture) would also apply to that.

However, when you think about it, there is really no such thing as social smoking. Having a beer or two doesn't usually change your consciousness or make you high. But the reason for smoking weed is to get high, right? At least it was when I used to smoke it. No one ever took one toke and quit.

God bless,

Oh my, easily debunked!
He also made the opium plant, and many poisonous ones. I know he didn't mean for us to use them either!

... and strychnine, and poisonous mushrooms, etc. The list is endless.

Good point, HD.

Ive had plenty of experiance with drugs, even the most "real" hallucinations are in the mind. They dont touch the soul.
If you get carried away with the mind, where does that leave your soul?
Greetings. I remember back in the late '60s I was at a party and someone spiked the wine with LSD and I didn't know it. I ended up in the hospital for 3 days and had the weirdest "trip". High school kids dropped LSD tablets like they were candy back then but I could never bring myself to take it.
Peyote and blotter acid were pretty popular back then.

Hi, that must have been pretty horrendous, your parents must have been scared stiff.
Its not until i got older that i started to see how, my actions where effecting others, i went through a long phase of living in sin, where i lived self rightously not doing deliberate bad but still bad non the less. Now im older i have to keep myself from becoming a hypocrite.

I was up in Anchorage, AK at the time. My dad did fly up from Texas when he heard about it.

I am against any forms of abuse of drugs or alchohol, as both can upset lives and ruin familes, but sometimes, people just have to find out the hard way, either thru jail or a crises of some sort, though it took the Lord putting "a hammer" on my head to turn me away from them. Thanks for your thoughts

Matt 23:27 "Woe to ye, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! That ye are liken to tombs having been whitewashed who any outside indeed are appearing beautiful, inside yet are being crammed of bones of dead-ones and of every uncleaness.
28 Thus also ye outside indeed are appearing to the men righteous, inside yet, ye are distended of hypocisy and of lawlessness

Reve 18:13 "and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men.

so true, i keep forgetting God will do everything he can, to get us to turn to him, all the bad things of this world mean nothing if you dont, and if you do then they saved your life.

You brought up a good point earlier about "hypocrisy" and ironically, the book of Job uses that word more times than any other book.
I always recommend the book of Job in conjunction with the Gospel of John for those that really want to know what YHWH asks for His people.

http://www.kingdombiblestudies.org/Job/Job.htm

Job 2:2 And YHWH is saying to the Satan "where from hence thou are coming"? And the Satan answering "from-to-go-to-and-fro in land and from to walk in her".

Job 15:34 For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

Matt 23:15 "Woe to ye, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! that Ye are going-about the Sea and the Dry/xhran <3584> to make one proselyte, and when he becomes/genhtai <1096> (5638), ye make him a son of geennhV <1067> two-fold of-ye-selves.

I think some people are forgetting how much evil there is in the world.
There has been evil in the world since the time of "cain", the first murderer.

Weed doesn't necessarily make someone do evil though it does put someone in a state of unreality.

John 8:44 "Ye out of a father the Devil are, and the desires of the father of ye, ye are willing to be doing".

Matthew 21:43 Therefore I am saying to ye, that shall be being taken-away from Ye the Kingdom of the God, and it shall be being given to a Nation doing the fruits of it.

Reve 12:8 and not He is strong, neither Place found of Them still in the Heaven.

While tobacco is damaging to the body, it is not a mind altering drug
such as Marijuana is. Although neither is beneficial for ongoing use.
Marijuana kills brain cells that will not grow back, in addition to 7 times
worse affects of a cigarette on the body, smoke wise. One marijuana cigarette
is equivalent to 7 tobacco cigarettes in damaging tars and smoke etc.
Alcohol used to be illegal, but the world pressed for it to become legal and
eventually it was. Many people have died unnecessarily as well because the law
cannot make people ethical. An ethical person will not drive drunk, and doesn't
need the law to tell them that.

I agree with you on the hypocrisy. The world is full of it.
It is not okay to murder they say, but that only depends on whether
or not the person is being brutally dismembered by a doctor in its mother's
womb or not.

IS ETHANOL A NEUROTOXIN?: THE EFFECTS OF ETHANOL ON NEURONAL STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION

B. E. LEONARD Department of Pharmacology, University College Galway, Republic of Ireland
Received 1 July 1986; Although the psychiatric manifestations of heavy ethanol consumption have been well known for decades, studies on the structural changes at the level of the nerve cell which result from chronic ethanol administration are relatively recent. It is now well established that ethanol increases the fluidity of the neuronal membrane by changing the ratio of unsaturated to saturated fats in favour of the latter; in addition, the concentration of cholesterol is increased. These changes in lipid composition appear to be associated with the development of behavioural tolerance to the drug. The resultant change in membrane structure affects transport processes across the cell surface involving calcium and other electrolytes and the active transport of neuro-transmitters such as the biogenic amines and GABA; there is evidence that neurotransmitter receptor function is also impaired as a consequence of the alteration in the membrane micro-environment brought about by chronic ethanol exposure. Such effects suggest that alterations in cellular function, and ultimately behaviour, are primarily the result of the changes in nerve membrane structure and function. The possible consequences of this with regard to the development of a therapy to counteract the neurotoxicity of ethanol are discussed.

Myth: Marijuana Kills Brain Cells. Used over time, marijuana permanently alters brain structure and function, causing memory loss, cognitive impairment, personality deterioration, and reduced productivity. Fact: None of the medical tests currently used to detect brain damage in humans have found harm from marijuana, even from long term high-dose use. An early study reported brain damage in rhesus monkeys after six months exposure to high concentrations of marijuana smoke. In a recent, more carefully conducted study, researchers found no evidence of brain abnormality in monkeys that were forced to inhale the equivalent of four to five marijuana cigarettes every day for a year. The claim that marijuana kills brain cells is based on a speculative report dating back a quarter of a century that has never been supported by any scientific study.

 • Heath, R.G., et al. “Cannabis Sativa: Effects on Brain Function and Ultrastructure in Rhesus Monkeys.” Biological Psychiatry 15 (1980): 657-690.

 • Ali, S.F., et al. “Chronic Marijuana Smoke Exposure in the Rhesus Monkey IV: Neurochemical Effects and Comparison to Acute and Chronic Exposure to Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in Rats.” Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior 40 (1991): 677-82.
Myth: Marijuana Impairs Memory and Cognition. Under the influence of marijuana, people are unable to think rationally and intelligently. Chronic marijuana use causes permanent mental impairment.
Fact: Marijuana produces immediate, temporary changes in thoughts, perceptions, and information processing. The cognitive process most clearly affected by marijuana is short-term memory. In laboratory studies, subjects under the influence of marijuana have no trouble remembering things they learned previously. However, they display diminished capacity to learn and recall new information. This diminishment only lasts for the duration of the intoxication. There is no convincing evidence that heavy long-term marijuana use permanently impairs memory or other cognitive functions.

I assume you came up with those ideas of the top of your head. Next I will say things of the top of mine. I am not advocating the use of marijuana, I just don't want to lie to people about it. The danger of marijuana is the pleasure received.

How do we know that God discerns the difference between the Intoxication of the effects of alcohol from the effects of Marijuana use? The bible never says that he discerns the difference, it never mentions Marijuana period. We can not just guess what things are sins or are not sins, we need biblical evidence.
