  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is virginity?

He considers it sin, but I have a hard time believing that anyone would bond equally with someone whom they have merely fantasized over vs. someone they actually had intercourse with. Besides, I have yet to hear of a person making another person pregnant by remote.

I would not put a person who hates his brother on the same level as a bloodthirsty murderer either, but God says he who hates his brother is a murderer. Remember, men judge the outward but God looks at the heart.

Still doesn't make it any less of a sin. There is just less serious repercussion in the natural, but if you break one part of the law then you guilty of breaking all of it. Sin is sin and the wages of sin is death.

The law might as well be not to breathe air. If you are a living creature, it's not going to happen. And to ask forgiveness for the way you are born is just a tad off IMO.

Hmm... so if any of you reading this are virgins, would you feel more comfortable having sex with someone on your wedding night if they had oral sex but were technical virgin than with somebody who has had traditional intercourse or is it all the same?
Actually the answer to your question is no, for me.

So you would prefer the oral non-virgin/technical virgin to the guy who has had traditional intercourse?
lol believe it or not, I have to think about this. I didn't realize how hard of a choice this was for me. I think however that I would NOT prefer the man who had traditional intercourse but that does not mean I would think the other man was any purer than the former.

These things are not possible with man, but all things are possible with God. This is why we need Christ. We absolutely can be completely delivered from sin through repentacen and fully trusting in Jesus Christ.

...Usually to describe unmarried women. You don't really hear men get called this.
That's a good point. "Virgin" is a term traditionally used to describe young, unmarried women. It may also be fair to say that men who wait are more concerned with "doing the right thing" than being regarded as "pure". Not many men talk about waiting in the context of purity.

I recently read an article about prostitution in Afghanistan. Apparently, many Afghani prostitutes only have anal sex in order to save their virginity for marriage. I don't get it.

What do you consider to be virginity? Are these Afghani "women of the night" virgins in your eyes? For those of you who only plan on marrying a virgin, does virginity only mean traditional intercourse?

Counting the fact that I'm still a virgin and so on. I'm still going to save myself until marriage weather my wife is a virgin or has had a past to her life before Christ. I will love my wife weather or not she is a virgin or nott..

Regards,
Drew

Why would I say it's less of a sin? All sin is "sinful enough." I'm just saying that lust does not equal a loss of virginity.

Yeah, a murderer who didn't kill anybody.

Ok, I see what you are saying but then waht do you make of the scriptures that say if you even look at a woman with lust then you have committed adultry, because doesn't that imply that you have cheated on your wife. Seriously, not being argumentative or trying to debate. I want to legitimately know what you think about it.

Thinking about this more, purity is important to me. I would rather marry a guy who was not a virgin but who was trying to live purely now than a guy who's a virgin but obsessed with porn or was really perverted.
I was waiting for somebody to say that... I was thinking that's what most of you feel. That purity is paramount...

i mean ideally i would want to marry a virgin guy who was down with purity, but that's pretty rare. Past mistakes can be forgiven and repented of. A good Christian man that values purity is not dependant on his virginity and that's truthfully more important to me than if he's a virgin or not. If he is- VERY COOL and i'll love him more for it. if not- I can love him for who he has become and the fact that he's trying to please God.

I think that means when you look at another woman lustfully, you have set aside your wife as the one and only woman you will enjoy, and you decide to enjoy another woman. This is breaking faith with her, and therefore adultery - at least on a certain level. Though I personally think that filing divorce over checking someone else out is insane. I can see the argument for doing that, but I really think that's playing fast and loose with the provision to divorce someone over adultery. I think for that to count, there needs to be either a relationship or casual improprieties on the side.
