  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ever felt this way about a band?

If you felt the need to respond to Taller's comment, you obviously do care. If you didn't... hey, no skin off your back and you wouldn't have even bothered to respond.

Actions speak louder than words.

eh? you're just like the rest of them. life lessons and all the normal stuff.
i'll run and leave a mess behind me and have to pick it up and no bother. and to expect me not to retaliate? you're really hilarious. i care because i don't act like you figure the rest do, nor does anyone i know. that's the problem with some people. you expect people to act like their age. and, no, they really don't. you see...actions like that make no noise, so how can they posibly be louder that words?
oh, yea, and if i didn't respond, well,i would act like you, and, well, that would be horrible.

Well, then... why don't we all stop listening to The Doors [Mr. Morrison's dead], The Jimi Hendrix Experience [RIP Redding & Hendrix], The Beatles [Lennon, Harrison]...

okay, now that is definatly something we should do. it would do some good to listen to new stuff. now, this is just an oppinion, i hope you know.
partially because i don't listen to those cause they stink (oppinion) and i really dislike with a great passion rap/hiphop *ewww*. what on earth made you listen to the doors anyways. alot of people steer clear of them.

Granted, did Jim Morrison have the best voice of all time? No. But The Doors are legends. His effect upon music and poetry... how many of the artists you listen to will eventually be called "An American Poet"? How many of the artists YOU actually listen to will have people making pilgramages across the world, continents, and time zones to visit their graves?

And I haven't said there's no new, decent contemporary music coming out. There is a just a lot from the past that was also very good.

have you forgoten Nirvana? They started the alternitive rock thing and people listen to that everywhere. and there are very many people who would go halfway across the world to do that. but you should know, the doors aren't that important. they're legends. old legends. and as in old i mean from the past, and what is in the past doesn't come to the present.

and what are you talking about contemporary for? i don't listen to that.

oh, and crossing a time zone is really a big leap. ooo.

I never said anything against Nirvana. You can't be sure I like or dislike them [for the record, I quite like the band.]

But you made a comment about the Doors, and I responded. Somehow, I doubt you even have a clue where Morrison's buried, so I shall just ignore the other time zone comment. [Guess what? The city is further to you than it is to me. And I highly doubt it's only people on the Eastern seaboard who are visiting Pere-Lachaise.]

Do you know what "contemporary" actually means? Hate to break it to you, Tool and Muse and whoever else you've mentioned in another thread are contemporary artists. Or at least more contemporary than The Doors, or Hendrix, or The Beatles.

And just because they're old doesn't mean they aren't relevant. Facebook the group "I've been to Jim Morrison's grave!" It's not all old, dried up hippies. It's everyone from all walks of life and all age groups. Regardless of your own personal age, and when you grew up, you can still have an appreciaton for the past.

umm, yea, i don't care that it's closer to you than to me, cause i'll never go there in my life, and when and if i do, i'll be sure to avoid it.

nicht wie ich mich interessiere, der sich für irgendeinen toten Kerl mit einem langen Renommee interessieren würde?

contemporary my butt, those are far from contemporary. closer, but far.
it's called alternitive. and tool is not nessesarily modern, either. i hardly listen to muse, and most of the others. if you are going to call it something, call it by it's name.

and yes, i know what contemporary means. i'm not an id10t.

You can be alternative and still be contemporary...
All contemporary really means is current, au courant, etc. Its not a bad thing - just an adjective.

yes, yes, yes, I KNOW. did you read what you quoted?

I did. And no, you did not explicity express that you knew what contemporary was.

But you seem to have this whole issue with a band being called contemporary and I have no clue exactly why. It's not a bad thing.

Contemporary metal.
Contemporary alternative.
Contemporary pop.

I'm done. No point arguing.
