  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Those types were usually beat up on the playground a lot.
Exactly. That said, I also believe in kindness. If someone finds something I say offenssive or whatever, I'll edit it out upon request, every single time. Miss Shelby is right on about people who report threads instead of asking the poster to edit the offending material first, they really are cowards.

You should never trust people who snitch, just no character there.
Interesting choice of words there. In Baltimore, there is a group of African-Americans who put out a couple DVDs entitled "Stop Snitching" urging people not to report violent crimes to the police. I guess this is the toned-down white guy Internet version of that campaign, huh? ;)

The only posts I can remember ever reporting involve a couple of people who continually post slander about a certain Presidential candidate, the same slanders, repeatedly, over and over again, at spam levels. I doubt a PM asking them to edit their posts would do much good. Many of us have asked them to stop, numerous times, we've posted threads about it, polls, whatever. This is the only recourse we have left.

I'm not generally someone who likes to report things or have them reported, but sometimes a line is crossed so repeatedly and so unrepentantly, even after it's been discussed with the folks involved a gazillion times, that higher authorities occasionally need to be invoked.

I do want to emphasize that I have no personal issue with either of the folks involved. I actually kind of like them. It's just that if I read one more "Obama is Satan Incarnate" type of thread, I may be forced to throw my computer out a window.

Snitching is a bit different. Reporting people on a stupid internet board is universally snitiching and universally worthy of the douche bag title. Same applies in any situation when you're directly involved and then tell on the people you're involved with, especially when you benefit from it. Giving information to the police when you aren't directly involved isn't snitching.

The Mimi avatar? Why? Illegal use of war paint? For some reason this board is not downloading for me correctly today. Can't see avatars, dollies or anything.

But no, I don't report. If I do, (rarely if ever). I make no secret of it.

I find the anon report system defeating. It does not promote resolution & communication. Only suspicion.
