Again, consequences of bad behavior on someone's part does not negate the fact that the baby is still a baby.

A baby is indeed still a baby, and a ball of cells that isn't viable outside the womb is still a ball of cells that isn't viable outside the womb.

Essentially, this comes down to the fact that you think (I would guess) that all human life is sacred, and special by virtue of humanity's relationship with the divine. Someone like me, who disagrees with you about the sanctity of human life, sees the termination of a pregnancy as a difficult choice emotionally speaking, but not as an evil act. We have fundamentally differing views about the nature and purpose of human life, and that is all there is to be said about the matter.

It's not an entirely different matter, if the baby is still a baby inside the womb five minutes before it's outside the womb. Where's the line?
We are talking about abortion, which, by definition deals with fetuses and embryos, which, by definition, are located within the mother. There is no 'line'. A baby is not a baby until it is born. Five minutes prior to birth, it is a fetus.

Once again. I am attempting to have a rational discussion. You are attempting to sway me with emotional tripe. You can redefine words all that you want. You can try to tug on my heart strings as hard as you can. As I stated before, I do not like abortion. I think it is horrible. But it is not my business. And unless it is your pregnancy we are discussing, it is not yours, either. I live in the United States of America. Just because you do not like ketchup does not mean that I cannot have it in my refrigerator.

I made no mention of the worth of the fetus. I could change the analogy to something like "Just because I think diamonds are ugly doesn't mean you cannot wear them,' if it would make you feel all warm and cozy inside to see a fetus compared to a diamond instead of ketchup. As long as the whole freedom thing comes across. Which I guess it didn't since the 'value' of a fetus is what you picked up on.:confused:

I Pass, you fail...

Here's the analogy:

You don't like ketchup. I still have the right to have ketchup.
You don't like abortions. I still have the right to have abortions.

Whether or not you are comfortable with the analogy, it does not compare foetuses with ketchup. It compares the act of privately owning ketchup and not forcing ketchup on anyone else with the act of privately having an abortion and not forcing anyone else to have an abortion.

Even if it did compare foetuses with ketchup (or diamonds), it would have nothing to do with moral relativism.

i see you can't grasp the idea that abortions, by their very definition, place worth on a fetus. hence what i said was correct.

Abortions are not about the worth of a foetus. They are about the rights of a woman.

The baby has a right to life.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."

Well, gee. Women have the right to the Liberty to make choices about their own bodies, and I'm afraid that I think the rights of thinking, independently-functioning people take precedence over those of non-viable foetuses.

Those of you who say a fetus is not a person and deserves no rights… well, I don’t think you really understand what you are saying. Not really. The line of who is and isn’t a person is not so easy to draw in absolute terms. I know this as a father with two daughters who were born prematurely. My daughters were both, very clearly, living, thinking and feeling beings when they were born. Certainly not of the level of awareness of a fully-developed baby, but far enough along to give me the realization that they developed, at some point, the right to have me and their mother do everything we could to keep them alive and healthy, just as we do now, and to understand that they do feel pain and emotions. I am not of the opinion that the point of conception is the point at which any rights exist. A lump of unthinking, unfeeling cells is just that to me. But I do believe there is a point at which the mental development of a fetus is such that, barring serious medical reasons dictating otherwise, and given the fact that the mother had ample time to make her choice, that a fetus earns the right to live even at the expense of living in another person’s body.

Those who say abortion is always wrong period and that “no real Christian” would say otherwise, and people who say those who are pro-choice are scum and don’t deserve to breathe the same air as them… well, you folks have some real problems in my book.

You are like big blimps. You have a message you like to project at people, but you really don’t do anything but hold a bunch of gas. You talk of others murdering children, yet you save none. Your message of absolutes ignores the complexities of the world.

Sex=pregnant=happy healthy baby.

Sorry, but for every story of a happy healthy baby, there is one of pain, poverty, disease, and death. You seem to have this static vision in your minds of every person who gets pregnant and feels the need to terminate. It seems to be a middle-class white girl who didn’t listen to the sermon on Sunday and went and got herself pregnant. Well, this is a big world, full of all sorts of nasty things. Your insistence on placing absolutes on everything serves no one.

If you want to save some babies, get off the computer and go volunteer at the runaway crisis center. Volunteer to assist at a refugee camp overseas. Collect food for the hungry. Serve at a refugee camp. Adopt and foster children in need. Take on some of the emotional, financial, physical and psychological baggage that so many of these mothers must deal with.

Its easy to hate people from the comfort of your living room. To call them murderers. Well, until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes...
