  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You have the right to refuse your child vaccines, and I have the right to call you a loon for it.

Also, my whole family got vaccinated and we're AIDS free. How awesome is that?!

One more thing: HPV might be an STD, so maybe you can hold off on your 6 year old getting it for now, but when she's (I assume it's a girl...) is 11 or 12, there's no good reason not to get it. There's no way of always knowing what your kid is into and/or doing without stalking her. It's plain poor parenting to not protect her against a disease that could eventually lead to cancer.

You don't have to worry about your kids getting sick from my kids.

That's not true. Again, this demonstrates a lack of knowledge of why public vaccination works.

The cycles of vaccination mean that immunity in those that have been immunized is not always 100%. Even a child that is immunized is at risk and if your child isn't immunized, they are increasing the risk by providing a 100% viable host.

So we should ignore the fact that AIDS in China has doubled in the LAST YEAR!

But at least you don't have to worry about AIDS, so you feel free to tell me that I am a poor parent?

How many children do you have?

notto, I will ask once again.

Did you get your kids vaccinated?

Don't have kids. I can say that I'm glad that my parents had me vaccinated. I work with kids and I certainly would not one one child putting them or me at risk because their parents didn't get them vaccinated.

Don't want to get vaccinated? Fine, just don't send your kids where they are increasing the risk of other kids.

Hmm, interest how that correlates with the decline in the birth rate.

You don't need to have as many kids to have a family if they aren't dying as children. People are having smaller families as well.

Not sure why that is particularly interesting or what it has to do with the topic here.

What exactly has doubled?
New cases?
Total cases?

Why are you concerned about somebody ignoring this when you choose to ignore the impact that modern medicine and immunization has had on infant mortality and life expectancy rates?

If you can cherry pick, why can't others?:D

So I don't get it. What is your drive for trying to debunk this thread?
Protecting the kids I work with and the kids of my friends and family.

Are you in the pharmaceutical industry?
No. You really need to stop thinking that anybody who actually views vaccinations as good are part of the conspiracy.

My motives have nothing to do with the conspiracy theory you subscribe to. They have to do with protecting kids. That is what vaccinations do. The statistics and history show that.

I have a problem with people who lie about things like suggesting that vaccinations are being forced on anybody or that more children die in a year due to vaccinations than the diseases would do. Neither of this is a supported or factual claim.

I'm also trying to clear up a fundamental misconception you have that your vaccinated child does not pose a risk to others if they are vaccinated.

If you need to distort and lie to make a point, you really don't have a very valid point.

Do you even have a list of the vaccinations required this year??

It depends on where you live but I'm familiar with the most common ones and I'm familiar with what the diseases can do if left unchecked in a population.

You are coming up with alot of excuses not to vaccinate your kids but there really are no religious reason at all.

Basically, you are either scared your kids will have a negative reaction or you just want to "stick it" to authorities and society in general for daring to try and tell you what to do.

Good article on why people still believe the vaccine/autism myth.

Systems of belief such as religion and even scientific paradigms can lock their adherents into confirmation biases. And then tidbits of fact or gossip appear over the Internet to shore them up. There's a point of no return beyond which it's very hard to change one's views about an important subject.

Then, too, the material in discussion is highly technical and specialized, and most parents aren't truly able to determine which conclusions are reasonable. So they go with their gut, or the zeitgeist message that it makes more sense to trust the "little guy"—the maverick scientist, the alt-med practitioner—than established medicine and public health. "History tells us that a lot of ground-breaking discoveries are made by mavericks who don't follow the mainstream," says Laidler. "What is often left out is that most of the mavericks are just plain wrong. They laughed at Galileo and Edison, but they also laughed at Bozo the Clown and Don Knotts."

From my hometown paper.

In addition to the vaccine requirements for the 2006-07 school year, the Board of Health approved three new vaccines — Prevnar, varicella and Tdap — in January for the upcoming school year.
Source

Prevnar
Important Safety Information

In clinical studies, the most frequently reported adverse events included injection site reactions, fever (
greaterthanorequal4.gif
38ºC/100.4ºF), irritability, drowsiness, restless sleep, decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and rash.
Risks are associated with all vaccines, including Prevnar®. Hypersensitivity to any vaccine component, including diphtheria toxoid, is a contraindication to its use. Prevnar® does not protect 100% of children vaccinated.
Ask your health care professional about the risks and benefits of Prevnar® and if Prevnar® is right for your child.
Supposed to be prescribed on an individual basis, but it's OK for mass innoculations?

Tdap
The pertussis component of the DTP vaccine was made by killing
whole pertussis bacteria with the chemical formaldehyde
Should I allow my child to be injected with formaldehyde??

Just two example. Parent can do their own research.

“There is no grace period,” said Haberlan, who added nurses will soon call noncompliant parents to remind them of the immunization requirements. “The state law says that if you don’t have these shots you can’t come to class unless they have signed a waiver from their physician.”
Hometown paper
This is an outright lack of telling the truth.

Colorado State Law CRS 25-4-903 says
25-4-903. Exemptions from immunization
(1) (Deleted by amendment, L. 97, p. 409, § 2, effective July 1, 1997.)
(2) It is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to have his or her child immunized unless the child is exempted pursuant to this section. A student shall be exempted from receiving the required immunizations in the following manner:
(a) By submitting to the student's school certification from a licensed physician that the physical condition of the student is such that one or more specified immunizations would endanger his or her life or health or is medically contraindicated due to other medical conditions; or
(b) By submitting to the student's school a statement of exemption signed by one parent or guardian or the emancipated student or student eighteen years of age or older that the parent, guardian, or student is an adherent to a religious belief whose teachings are opposed to immunizations or that the parent or guardian or the emancipated student or student eighteen years of age or older has a personal belief that is opposed to immunizations.
(3) The state board of health may provide, by regulation, for further exemptions to immunization based upon sound medical practice.
(4) All information distributed to parents by school districts regarding immunization shall inform them of their rights under subsection (2) of this section.

Should I allow my child to be injected with formaldehyde??

Depends on the dosage. Formaldehyde is really only a risk is fiarly large doses through inhaling. The risk of not getting a vaccine probably outweighs any risk of having a teeny tiny bit of formaldehyde in the injection (if any actually still remains out of the manufacturing process).

You do know that your body has natural formaldehyde in it, right? God's design includes it in your own body.

This is just another scare tactic.

Unless you can relate the actual dosage to some harm then it doesn't really show any risk.

Information on formaldehyde exposure from vaccinations.
http://www.chop.edu/consumer/jsp/division/generic.jsp?id=75809

The average quantity of formaldehyde to which a young infant could be exposed at one time may be as high as 0.2 mg (see table below). This quantity of formaldehyde is considered to be safe for two reasons. First, formaldehyde is essential in human metabolism and is required for the synthesis of DNA and amino acids (the building blocks of protein). Therefore, all humans have detectable quantities of natural formaldehyde in their circulation (about 2.5 ug of formaldehyde per ml of blood). Assuming an average weight of a 2-month-old of 5 kg and an average blood volume of 85 ml per kg, the total quantity of formaldehyde found in an infant’s circulation would be about 1.1 mg — a value at least five-fold greater than that to which an infant would be exposed in vaccines. Second, quantities of formaldehyde at least 600–fold greater than that contained in vaccines have been given safely to animals.

Your still cherrypicking.

Then there's cancer. Billions and billions have been spent researching cancer. Yet still, no one even knows the cause, the cure, or even if it's a bacteria, virus or what.

This just isn't true. We know what causes cancer - mutations in the cells. Those mutations can be caused by a veriety of carcinogens - radiation, stubstances like asbetos and tobacco and viruses like HPV.

I just love Alt-Med and medical Luddites who don't even know the basics of what they're talking about but boldly assert to know "the secret" abou the medical money machine racket.

Vaccinations are medical procedures, and every medical procedure carries with it an inherant risk of infection or death. This is how medicine and the human body works.

Yes people do have adverse reactions to vaccinations and everything needs to be done to ensure that it happens as infrequently as possible.

I personally disagree with forcing someone to take a medicine or a treatment they dont want to take...but the consequences of NOT having vaccines is extremely serious. I suggest looking up the influenza epidemic of 1918 for one example. An un-protected population that becomes exposed to an infectious disease, especially a population as mobile as the world is today, is an epidemic waiting to happen.

That means thousands of deaths, possibly tens of thousands, or in the worst case millions of deaths. The Black Death killed rough 70 million people worldwide, 20-30 million in Europe alone. And that was with travel that took days, weeks, months, even years for long tips. Immagine how fast an infectious disease would spread if a person could catch the disease in Los Angeles, board a plane, then disembark in Beijing and not have even begun to feel sick yet. Imagine an infectious disease moving through a world where people can cross the world in hours.

If the Black Death were to hit the modern world (Or a similar disease to which there was no vaccine or cure for) I would say that the death toll would be half a billion at least, especially when the disease hits areas with poor medical care and experience like East Asia or Africa. To put that in perspective, the population of the United States is 300,000,000 people.

So there are two options here. One, we make it compulsory to get shots, people are uncomfortable and offended, we have a few deaths related to complications. Two, half a billion people dead but nobody has to get shots....yeah Im not seeing the difficulty with this choice

So what's the cure there Doc ? I just love these intelligent god like beings he can put someone down for trying.

Actually, in my opinion, we have too much mucous in the stomach and intestinal lining, and the proper nutrients aren't getting to the cells, causing their ph balance to go down.

I think a good stomach lining cleaning, with a mild acidic food, such as raw onion, washed down with saltwater would do wonders for people.

Also flourides in water, cloud seeding ( huge right now) with silver iodide, pollution from industry.

We're making ourselves sick, and because we are a set the kids down in front of the tv society, we just let them pump our kids full of untested and unproven chemicals, cause doctors and the government, are smarter than God.

Go ahead, just follow the herd right off the edge of the cliff.

I dust off my feet.
