  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just the interpretation of a heretic here, but somehow I don't see that passage providing any detail of the elements aside from them melting.

If you could teleport back in time, how would you re-write that verse?

And the ancient Greeks knew that you could melt elements. (bronze is a metal they used and bronze is a copper alloy, often mixed with tin)

I don't agree with that. I get sick of seeing the word 'bronze' in other translations of the Bible. That word isn't even found in the KJV.

They used brass.

Forgetting about rainbows seen in water fall and whitewater mists, what year did it start raining?

Assuming James Ussher's dating method correct --- 2349 BC.

Either way, it shows that the knowledge that elements melt isn't anything new.

As for me writing it, I would add the equations that were used to govern the physical laws somewhere. Maybe the grand unification theory too. Something like that would impress me quite a bit and have me consider converting.

So in 66 AD, you would write the equations that were used to govern the physical laws somewhere (not to mention the GUT), and expect the Koine (common people) to believe you?

Not to mention, expecting God to include it in His Word?

I would be an omnipotent being, I could write it in a way that is simple and easy to understand. Or maybe make the universe using simple rules.

Were there any rivers and streams before 2349 BC?

Did the rivers and streams flow, or were they stagnant?

(And btw, skip with all the scripture quotes. I don't read them. I'm trying to have a discussion with you, not a book. I want you to reason this out for yourself, not churn out verses like a zombie.)

Thus the simplicity of 2 Peter 10.

Did you happen to see the example I gave with explaining a car to someone from three different time periods?

I don't put my sword up for nobody; but in this case I'll make an exception.

But I promise you, the first time you cross the line and contradict it, I'll put it out and use it to divide you soul and spirit and joints and marrow.

( Hebrews 4:12 :) )

Sure, but none of us are omnipotent. We are incapable of explaining things in ways that can't be misinterpreted.

Do you need some dramatic background music with that? Good grief!! Ultimatums, swords, threats of cutting to the bone marrow......Where do you think you are, World of Warcraft???? Yikes!

Get a grip, man! This is merely a discussion.

But it didn't state anything unknown before it's writing.

The purpose of writing 2 Peter, from the Rainbow Study Bible:
  • This second letter of Peter is written not long before his death. Whereas his first letter to the believers combated persecution from the outside, this time Peter is addressing the second major threat - false teaching from the inside. Such false teaching has greatly contributed to the apostasy of the Christians in Asia Minor to whom Peter is writing. The mission of Peter's words is to expose these false teachers and to encourage the believers to mature in the truth of God.
And here's the content of the epistle:
  • This letter from Peter encourages believers to grow in Christ, which is made possible by a proper knowledge of the Gospel. God's Word gives the promises necessary for obedience and can be totally relied upon as revealing all truth and prophecy. Peter discusses in detail the danger and destructiveness of the evil ministry of false teachers, whose interests are not in God, but in self-glorification and worldly lusts. But God's righteousness shall prevail when, at the day of the Lord, the old earth shall be burned up and a new heaven and a new earth shall replace it.
And you want to jump in there with the GUT?

Where did the water supply, which fed the rivers and streams, and flowed down from the mountains, come from?

Good question --- a very good question --- I don't know.

I'll have to consult my resources and see what I can come up with.

If I can't find anything viable, then I'll have to change my interpretation of a couple of passages in the Bible.

The Earth was a lot younger 4000 years ago being only a third of it’s present age therefore the core was considerably hotter as fewer half-lives had passed meaning increased radiation. As a result of this geothermal activity might be sufficient to heat ground water and produce hot springs to fuel the rivers.
