Could be a lot to do with the changing tide of American churches in becoming intolerant. They used to hold an ideology of inclusion, but now days they hold a judgmental ideology of exclusion. They used to harp on social justice, now days they harp on financial blessings and prosperity. They used to hold a ideology of peace and humility, but now days they hold a blind allegiance to unjustifiable war in lieu of faith in party.

God is probably saying, "pssst...hey you, yoo-hoo...remember me??

The media gives the Phelps family--one small wacko group loathed by Christians--lots of attention. They give no attention to groups like Pax Christi (which has members in 60 countries). Because they want people to believe what you just posted.

1. It aint just the Phelps family, but strawman acknowledged.

2. Is that an organization spun from the late churches of America?

This is not surprising, because the Democrats have a party of diversity. The Democratic party takes those who are shunned by the republic party, because the republic party does not truly represent the people of America. One look at the cast of Presidential wannabe's proves this.... all middle aged white guys.

Churches need to be inclusive. An elitist Church is exactly what we were scathed for by Paul. The fact is that Christianity is about saving sinners, not condemning them from our high horse.

Christianity is about bringing the people together and liberating them from their ignorance and misbehavior, not casting insults and legislating against them.

It's simply wrong.

I don't see why anybody is suprised, the "conservative christian" movement has done a very good job as turning churches into little more than arms of the republican party. When you start brainwashing people into believing that the democrats are hell spawn you're going to get people who will vote against them on that alone.

Many would do well to take heed of this!

I'm really sick of comparisons like these. I don't appreciate smug, self-righteous political operatives trying to tell me (through innuendo) that atheists vote Democratic and that the Republican party is the "party of God". Enough of this garbage.

The is Pew Research data. I believe they are "political operatives" but Pew, like so many liberal groups, tries to maintain a facade of non-partisanship (why the left does this would make an interesting thread in itself). So if anyone here is saying the GOP is the "party of God" it is the Democrat party itself. You won't find many Republicans working for Pew.

The person who has dealt with the religious vote more than anyone else in the last three election cycles is Stanley Greenberg--Bill Clinton's pollster. Greenberg is married to Rosa DeLauro (D-CT). Greenberg's analysis of the religious vote in the 2004 electon, stunned the Democratic party and led to such things as Nancy Pelosi and 54 other Catholic House Democrats penning a statement about how important religion is to them. Greenberg's number crunching also led to Jim Wallis' return from obscurity (after being disgraced by his apologies for Soviet totalitarianism during the Cold War). Greenberg's analysis lead, in fact, to Barack Obama and the liberal media discussing Senator Obama's faith in some depth. It might even been the deciding factor in the party selecting Obama to run for President.

That is nothing new in American politics however. Thomas Jefferson was slammed for being a liberal Christian. In response, he allied himself with Baptists and hired the Rev. David Allen to preach sermons supporting his reelection in the heart of Congregationalist Federalist Connecticut. Alan was quite the character. He believed that if people in D.C. and New Haven built docks and warehouses for them, Jews would come in ships to America and that, along with the reelection of Thomas Jefferson, would bring about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Aside from all that, look on the positive. This "diversity" in the party gives Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Ted Kennedy, Robert Byrd, Alcee Hastings, Kate Michelman, Tammy Baldwin and other Christian Democrats a perfect opportunity to "reach out" and fulfill the Great Commission in Matthew 28:16-20. Be something if they were able to turn the party's largest donor (the largest donor to any political party in American history), George Soros, to the faith. Last I read he is still referring to himself as an atheist.

Exit polls found that the Democrats’ gains in the 2006 midterm election were concentrated among non-Christians and secular voters . . . Among those who attend church a few times a year, for instance, 60% voted Democratic, compared with 50% in 2002. And among those who never go to church, 67% voted Democratic; four years ago, only 55% did so . . .

So what is your point?

Are you saying not going to church makes a person less of a person or someone to be despised?

I that it is the loudest churches in America that are most focused on money and/or power - hence being able to be loudest. There majority of churches are probably quiet, charitable, community-forming churches. There are these positive churches across America that focus on family, friends, community, and helping those in need. But they do it quietly, as their ultimate goal is to help, not to get rich.

But hey, who am I to speak? I'm just an outside persepective... this post will probably get just as ignored as my last one in this thread. :sigh: :( ;)

Who is advocating the "Christian law or Christian rule in America" you speak of?

No one I know.

I'm sure you may be familiar with some of these folks:

Quote from the second from the top link:
The Cultural Mandate

The cultural mandate is thus the obligation of covenant man to subdue the earth and to exercise dominion over it under God (Gen. 1:26-28). The law is the program for that purpose and provides the God-ordained means of improving and developing plants, animals, men, and institutions in terms of their duty to fulfil God's purpose. In every age, men have a duty to obey God and to train and improve themselves, i.e., to sanctify themselves, in terms of God's law. All enemies of Christ in this fallen world must be conquered. St. Paul, summoning believers to their calling, declared,
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled (II Cor. 10:4-6).
The Berkeley Version renders verse 6 thus: "We are prepared also to administer justice upon all disobedience, when your obedience is fully shown." Moffatt brings out the force of this verse even more clearly: "I am prepared to court-martial anyone who remains insubordinate, once your submission is complete." Moffatt renders verse 5, "I demolish theories and any rampart thrown up to resist the knowledge of God, I take every project prisoner to make it obey Christ."
St. Paul was talking about the cultural mandate. Before the fall, the task was less complicated. Now man needs regeneration. Thus, the first step in the mandate is to bring men the word of God and for God to regenerate them. The second step is to demolish every kind of rampart or opposition to the dominion of God in Christ. The world and men must be brought into captivity to Christ, under the dominion of the Kingdom of God and the law of that kingdom. Third, this requires that, like Paul, we court-martial or "administer justice upon all disobedience" in every area of life where we encounter it. To deny the cultural mandate is to deny Christ and to surrender the world to the devil. R.J. Rushdoony, The Institutes of Biblical Law (
