What does Jesus say are the most important things? In my understanding, he says to keep the two commandments of love God and love your neighbour are the most crucial things. Now this is therefore how we should share the gospel with people. Yes, there's a time and place for just coming out and talking about Scripture, but in general I find, as others have said, that the best way is by the way you act and through relationships.
Everything happens in it's own time, and we can't dictate what that is(Ecclesiastes 3). I can definitely say that with some of my friends, if I initially started the conversation when I met them first with - Hi, I'm a Christian, and I believe..., then they wouldn't have been interested in friendship. This would therefore mean the fruitful conversations since would never have happened.
A great quote I heard once was - "don't make friends in order to evangelise, but make friends because you like the person."
Of course it's important not to hide your faith, as stated in Luke 12:8,9 among other places, but that doesn't imply we should give everyone an overview of the gospel the moment we meet them.
And in my experience, the way you act will then create people to ask questions, and these will be on their terms, so they won't feel pressured, and therefore will open up more, and be more willing to listen to what you have to say.
