• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You know, I am normally very quick to ask vendors who walk into our office uninvited to leave the same way they came, but there is something about a Girl Scout, or rather her offering of cookies, that is irresistible....YUM

I heard how many cookies the girl scoutts had to seel just to pay for their liability insurance. Astroniminical figure  What a shame. The people making money these days is lawyers and insurance companies :sigh:

I was a Girl Scout leader for 7 years and now am an advisor to 3 independent scouts and the girls really only got about 46 cents a box...some councils give higher but it's not very much.

The cookies are good, but if you ever just want to give to the troop, give them a $5 donation and they will be THRILLED! :)

That's funny!!! If that was the case, why are there so many lawyers I know who graduated in the top 15% of their class, scored highly on the bar, and can't find a job? I wish the media would get their facts straight when reporting stuff that lawyers do, or at least report more of the story that would explain everything.

Insurance Companies are taking all the money, not the lawyers.

They're just so doggone cute! How can you tell them 'no'?

Do you know what the word "satan" means in Hebrew?

Prosecuting attorney!! Seriously!

That does not mean they are taking all the money.

If you want to be literal, most jurisdictions are having a hard time finding prosecuting attorneys for the district attorneys' offices because the pay stinks. I make more than a lot of prosecutors and I'm just a measly environmental lit paralegal.

It's their own fault for not going into a more noble profession like engineering, :p although I remember how quickly our class dwindled after the first and then the second semester of Calculus. I guess numbers unrelated to $$$ are just not important to some people :( and I detest having to do any kind of accounting.

You're right, though. My mother has stated that insurance would have been easier, self-perpetuating money than the real estate game. Lawyers do make a nice sum on every real estate transaction, be it title work, mortgage docs, deed prep, etc. so I don't feel too sorry for them. ;)

Edited out. I'm shutting up now before I get in trouble.

Just don't lump lawyers into one group. I don't know anything about real estate law, and neither does my boss. However, we are both very proud of what we do, feel like we are helping people, and deserve our paychecks.

 You do know I was teasing. :sorry:

We are kind of left in a lurch without proper application of law and our best friends in the real estate game are our state association attorneys. I absolutely love them all, but our best mind in Texas real estate law has gone to work for the Catholic Diocese. He's that devout and one of the best human beings on the planet.

I'm sorry. I'm just used to feeling like I have to defend what I do. I can't tell you how many times I've been told that just working for lawyers is sinful - as in everything they do is that unethical. It hasn't happened as much on this forum, but it has on other Christian forums.

Sorry about that, Flipper. We get treated badly, too. I just think that people detest what they must rely on and pay for because they themselves don't posses the knowledge or licenses. It's most small-minded and shows lack of sophistication or fear of true understanding.
I found this out very early on when I thought a client fully understood the blue prints of a plan, but only was afraid to admit they didn't for fear of looking stupid ....geez! Instead there were walls in places that they could not understand, etc.

What's stupid bout relying on someone else who's more expert in their field? Would they do their own surgery as well? It's these humans that make me nuts sometimes. I'm telling ya!

If not for my clients, I could get a lot of work done. :)

I don't get that either. My grandma died a couple years ago, and there was this issue with getting her house and land properly appraised and sold. I know nothing about real estate, they know nothing about real estate. However, I became a family pariah because I suggested hiring a real estate agent to sort it out for us and tell us what to do. The idea of paying someone 7% was just unfathomable. I had even found a friend willing to do it for a fraction - like 3%. There are still family mad at me for that one. They thought my mom should have just gone through the bank, even though she didn't know what she was doing.

I hear you! Some clients think their cases are worth so much more than they are, and we are pretty blunt up front, but they still swear we led them on.

It's too bad there isn't more in the legal system than just the law - just not too Lutheran, with the proper application and difference of law AND GOSPEL. Nothing too similar :(
