  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wouldn't worry about it over much, Flipper. These people may even get sufficient signatures to get the measure on the ballot. Still, the electorate will see the stupidity of it and it's underlying intent, and vote it down.

The underlying intent, is to get this passed, then challenge it as unconstitutional. They would use this ruling as leverage to force same sex marriages. The whole intent is so patently transparent it's as stupid as the people promoting it. I guess one follows the other. Then again, in the state of California...:sigh:

** deleted because I don't want to get in trouble for posting something about homosexuality. I'm sorry I even posted this in the first place.

The co-worker did get fired today. Please say a prayer for her. She is kind of the breadwinner of her family right now. While it really needed to be done, I still feel bad. She did get a decent severance package.

One of the many problems was that she didn't like taking direction from me (she doesn't work under me, and I certainly don't conduct myself like she should be working under me, but I'm the senior paralegal on the team, so I'm expected to give a little direction), and her behavior suggested it was because I was considerably younger than her, even though I have over 10 years of experience over her. This was how it was put to me by the office manager.

I've been working for lawyers for 14 years and there have been many instances of issues taken because I am or seem "too young." You would think I would be old enough by now? I can't believe I'm still going through this. I guess the day I'm old enough will be the day I'll be too old. I can't win.

The one temp that we are hoping to turn into a secretary for the team is older than I, and she doesn't mind taking direction from me - I've earned her respect. In fact, we go to lunch together all the time. The whole thing is just strange.

I'll tell you what, given the intensity and seriousness of our discussions here today, I would definitely pour a drink if I didn't have such a headache.

Here, I'll pour you one...

Thanks, sweets, but my plan right now is to save up my annual alcohol consumption allotment for my trip to the UK later this year.
My benchmarks will be a real English pub, the fields of lavender, spending the night in a castle, and stepping foot in Scotland...I may shed a tear for the last one.

Haha...I would except that you two Anglicans might gang up and submarine my plan to get him into the Lutheran church.
He is surprised by and receptive to our more conservative theology and I found an ELCE church near his home so I'm rather excited. I had no idea the LCMS was represented in the UK.

I'm about to have mine now, Ed. Nothing special, though.

I love to cook when I have the time. It seems my afternoons get hectic and it's 6:00 before I know it, so I have to throw something nutritous together for myself and my daughter. If not for her, I'd eat a lot of junk.
